The Media Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has developed "the ultimate slow-motion camera" is so fast that they can show the propagation of light in slow motion. In English as the "trillion Frames Camera" called this system takes approximately 1 trillion in frames per second.

Really really really clever technique. They're essentially firing off a 'strobe' in the form of a laser and then offsetting a really really really fast shutter. Increase the shutter delay by a few picoseconds and fire another strobe. Build up an animation of the propagation of a wave of light!

I often shy away from calling something genius... but this definitely fits the bill.

Their stated objective is almost even cooler than the video of a laser pulse moving through a bottle. They plan to reconstruct a 3D scene based on the propagating 'ripples' from whatever the flash colides with. Wherever the flash collides with an object it'll reflect back in an expanding ripple unless it's really specular or dark. Who would have thought that enhancing something facing away from camera would ever actually be possible. Ingenious!

Thats very clever filming the laser pulse over and over to get the frames.......love it

Wow,,,

I was just coming here to post this! haha ohhhh reddit

But yea crazy stuff man

Well what is it...

Well what is it...

wave, particle...or both.

Wait thats electrons, or can photons play the double split test to?

Can you imagine a scene in a movie where this reveals a character coming out of the complete dark this way.
Sorta organic and cool.

Very cool in a very strange way. And brilliantly scored.
If Graeme sees this it might become a firmware upgrade.

yeah, saw this and was about to post the link... so when will my EPIC firmware have 1/1,000,000,000,000 sec recording at 5K - and how high of ROBcode can i go? Oh, and please include this with the DRAGON upgrade, thanks!

Here's how it works...

I like when he noted how the camera only sees in one dimension. In my mind, I would also state that it sees another, the fourth dimension. That would be "Time".

Mich,

if you think that is related to the moving images than definitely you have to read
