Hi!

I have a Cinema Products J6 zoom controller. It has the ability to trigger start/stop from a red button (see last pic) - it was obviously made for Arri cameras.

It comes with a Hirose 6-pin to Fischer 11-pin power cable (the Hirose 6-pin attaches to the EXT PWR port on the controller - see first picture - (the port on the left) - and the Fischer 11-pin connects to the Arri camera)

Would it be possible to do something to make it work with the EPIC? A custom cable?

Thank you!

Any advice would be appreciated... Thanks!

That controller goes back a few years! The companion product for it was the Cinema Products J5 motor...

As far as using it for an EPIC start/stop - though it may be possible from an engineering standpoint, I would not bother.
While the J6 was good for it's time - it is antiquated technology. Most of the functionality of the J6 was to control a zoom motor - not as a start/stop switch.

If you want a nice, functional start/stop unit for the EPIC, look at the remote made by Madly Fins: http://www.madlyfins.com/product.php?id_product=22
Combine that with the breakout cable from the RED store and for 300 bucks you have a system that was designed for the purpose.

You can choose another manufacturer of the breakout too - more hardware than cable, it's a nice pro grade solution (but their name is verboten here).

Something to consider: manufacturing a cable to interface the J6 to the EPIC port may create a warranty issue - much more expensive than the alternative.

Like Brian said it may be possible from an engineering standpoint. If you are absolutely deteremined to do this, you can send it in to us and we can test the pin-out to see what the possibilities are. Contact me at jason@CinemaOxide.com
