Tree of Life Trailer at Apple.com

Looks cool. No clue what it's about from the trailer though. The earth may or may not be destroyed in a comet impact.

It's like if a Natural Disaster popcorn flick trailer accidentally got inter-cut with an indie family drama.

Beautiful trailer.

Actually, I think you may be right on that. The trailer and logline underplay that notion, but I think that may be what happens. From what I can tell, Sean Penn is recalling his childhood in the '50s and questioning the meaning of his life in the face of an earth ending disaster. The scene with the comet, the scene with Sean Penn and others looking up at the sky at the beach, and the "brute strength" of nature line in the film description give that impression.

One of the more striking things about this trailer is that some of the more beautiful shots were achieved completely in camera-- like the camera obscura on the bedroom wall.

Hehe. I have to agree with those comments. I haven't followed TOL's development, so had no clue what it could be about. Watched the trailer and got the impression it was following the life of one or a couple people from birth up to the end of the world or something like that. More clear after reading the synopsis, but we still have shots of an impact of some large object with earth and other things...

Anyway, I'm very curious. The cinematography looks excellent. This definitely gets my vote for best trailer of the year.

...I'm sure Tom had to change his underwear.

Amazing!!!

Looks promising and probably the best movie Made in USA for 2010.

it's kind of odd how darrens original version of, "the fountain" was called, "tree of life." and was supposed to be starring brad pitt but he left the project. also the use of microscopic photography and themes dealing with love, space and time. AND mr. pitt is the producer. seems like brad took darren's idea and went to mr. malick who wrote his own version. but this could be exactly what the story needed. here's hoping.

Malick wrote this film 30 years ago.

there is another coming on it's heals!

quote from the dialog "unless you love ... your life will flash by"
as beautiful as the images, can't wait to see this

Disappointing!

The Thin Red Line was a masterpiece. But, since then it has been the same rehash of a contrived philosophy by Terrance Malick. He needs to grow as a story teller, but seems unwilling to do so.
