Travelling with gear

When travelling where do you guys store your gear.

Say your living out of your hotel and want to run out for a few hours, any tips to make sure your gear doesn't get nicked?

+1 and a belief that thieves aren't hiding in every closet - I've left gear in a "grass hut" on a beach in Goa, just because I won't be a slave to the fear.

I've left the body in the safety deposit box at the front desk and pulled all of the accessories out of the bag and fit them into the room safe.

LOL, because on several shoots, we'd walk by a hotel room with the Do Not Disturb sign and loud TV on and we'd say to each other, "Must be a photographer's room."

I just leave the camera cases in the hotel room closet and shot media in the room safe.

@Glen - I left money, laptop and a heap of other items I shouldn't in a hotel in Delhi just laying around. None of it was touched. Housekeeping actually sorted the cash into a neat pile but it was all there haha.

Ive also heard about padlocking pelican cases and chaining them to hotel radiators etc.

But if someone really wants your gear I'm sure they'll figure a way to take it.
