working on a feature where offline will be rendered at the post house by us, DIT will set the grade on-location. Is there any way to take this information and transport it? Save Look function so that when I export offline it looks like the DOP and DIT decided on?

regards

Marcus

If REDCineX is being used for the transcodes at the post house then it will load any looks created in REDCineX on set that are saved to the RMD's and apply those during rendering/transcoding for offline. The only thing you have to watch is that when backing up to multiple locations the DIT is working from and saving to the drive that will be handed over so that the RMD's are saved there and you recieve them at the post house. Using AAsync or similar with automatic folder sync across all backups will help manage all this element and ensure that the looks aren't lost if something goes wrong with the handover drive.

As for transcoding using other apps I'm not sure which of them actually support the looks created in REDcineX yet, but you should be able to use REDcineX for most transcoding. The full look does also appear to be applied in quicktime wrappers generated fro RedCineX but doesn't seem to carry through to Apple Color in any way that I have found so that workflow is limited as far as I can tell (wrappers are limiting anyway). - Perhaps someone else can chime in on this issue?

Clipfinder can load looks into Color.

thanks for your reply

sorry must have been sleepig when I wrote this question. I have found out loads since then. AVID MC 5.0 has support for the RMD which is just what I need

cheers
