Transformers 4 - Red Epic Confirmed

Yeah, I've heard only horrible things. (And I'm a huge fan of him as a director.) I'm surprised crew members here are so enthusiastic about working with him.

Ok let's share. Gimme some stories!

Does anyone here have personal experience or could they direct to a website(s) where people have vented?

Here's how he treated Rosie Huntington-Whitley the minute he met her:

“I first met Michael back in 2009; it was on the set of the Christmas commercial for Victoria’s Secret. I remember the first thing Michael said to me— before he even introduced himself or asked me my name—was “Can you walk?” And I looked at him like, “What is this man talking about? Yeah, of course I can walk.” And then he proceeded to tell them to get me in the car, and then I was driven—I mean, honestly, I want to say it was about half a mile out in the desert. I kept thinking, “This is a joke, right?” And the car dumped me in the middle of the desert. All I was wearing was a bra and underwear and a big, billowing, black, floor-length cape and high heels. And he says, “OK, when we shout action, you’re going to walk!” and I assumed I would be doing this in several stages. They yelled action, and the car sped off back to set, and I just was like, “Well, what am I supposed to do?” So I walked all the way back to where the camera was standing, which took me—I would say a good 10, 12 minutes, and it was a proper runway stomp—on salt flats; it was like 100 degrees, felt like fire. I remember walking back and being not impressed by the whole thing. I was pretty pissed off afterwards; I just looked at Michael, and he goes, “I guess you can walk, then.”

There's lots of stories but most are not on the web. His own site lists things other actors have called him in the past: "Actors have called Michael Bay an asshole, a cocksucker, a Nazi—often to his face..."

LA is a small world....

I have quite a few friends who have direct experience in camera dept..

not going to get specific, but ill just stick with my guns and say... you cant pay me enough to work for him.

I think I have yet to see more than 20 minutes of a transformers movie. However watching BTS on DVDs/BRs is a much more interesting thing to put on your tv. Since I cringe at the idea of owning one of these you can simply see them on youtube. These guys are having fun on set!!! Unless Bayhem is having one of this bad 15 minutes ;)

Have you ever worked with Bay yourself?

Do you have to to know? I worked for a Producer who worked on Armageddon..Between him and other stories I wouldn't want to work for him...

My wife is a model. If he did that to her, she'd kick him in the nuts and I'd track him down, kidnap him, and make him take the same walk naked.

I would just add that there are always two sides to every story and if you only hear one side be very careful in judging someone actions.

of course, but with an ego like his, I'm sure his side is twisted. Did you read the RHW quote a couple posts back about her first experience? Not sure there needs to be another side to the story...

I've only heard stories second hand, mostly about how he treats camera department.

That said, I've heard things about Eastwood and Scorsese, too. I respect all three tremendously as directors and have no doubt they push themselves as hard as they're criticized for pushing anyone else. I just doubt I could stand the heat and am kind of curious why everyone seems so eager to try.

All the stories I've heard about Bay - not including the stuff coming out of actor's mouths regarding his personal behaviour and attitudes - basically points to his personal declaration of being an obsessive, perfectionist work-a-holic who doesn't want to waste time - except his own when he chooses to - on anything that doesn't get his movies completed. Still, I wouldn't turn down a chance to sit behind the guy on a set. He does know something about something.

I've work with him and found him professional.

He makes movies for teenage boys. Get over it. If you don't like them you're probably not a teenage boy. Box office scoreboard.

Don't be a hater because he's successful.

He gets to play with the best biggest newest toys with hot girls and explosions.

I'm happy for him.

I've worked for Bay years back on "The Island". He's a man that knows how to get things done. Is he loud and in your face? Occasionally, but then again this is Hollywood. It comes with the territory. Most crew members get it. Those that don't like it go work for someone else. He once asked me to roll an Eyemo crash cam by hand when the 100ft remote trigger failed. The entire side of a 10-story building was rigged with explosives and ready to blow. And there happened to be the flaming shell of a helicopter dangling from a crane some 50ft in the air directly above the camera timed to release when the bombs went off. I "politely" declined that invitation. Michael found himself a PA to run in there and turn it on. There's some things that even I won't dare to do...

which project have you worked with him? were you in camera dept?

because all the stories ive heard are from camera crews

Outside of Transformers saga, I really liked "The Island" and by the way "Pain and Gain" may be lil twisted, but still an interesting film.
