Hello folks,
has anybody tried transferring red projects from Adobe Premier to Final Cut?
team started editing a feature project on Premier and wanted to finish in AE, but because of the render time, now they want to switch to the Apple workflow, I know I can export edl of the clean sequence from premier, and import it in Final cut, but I am worried how should I then online the footage? should I use log and transfer tool and recapture r3d using the log and tranfer tool? if somebody knows any easier way outs it will be great to hear.
thanks in advance

I just tried importing EDL from premier, but no luck at all. EDL from Premier seems to be not complete, what I mean is that some of the file names are not complete when I import them on the timeline.
please if anybody knows the solution inform us as we are on a very tight time schedule.

EDL and Premiere CS4 is a nightmare. It's pretty much broken as far as I can tell. I have used successful EDLs from Premiere Pro 2 on a PC, but Final cut won't import them correctly. It might have something to do with Final Cut freaking out when your clips have no reel name assigned to them, so if you did that first, it might help.

But in the bad news department, even the EDL I got into Final Cut on a feature I was moving had wrong timecode in points for every clip, and several wrong clip names. The only way you have a chance at getting it right is to collapse everything down to only 1 video and 1 audio track in Premiere, send out an EDL (if you can get that working via update or downgrade) and then manually slip all of the clips to the correct timecode.

I just did this on a feature and it took me about 75-100 hours to do.

I don't think that Automatic Duck makes a program for premiere to FCP, but you could check. You could also try exporting an AVID ALE from a PC version of Premiere, and then go through an automatic duck program, I think there is one for Avid to FCP.

Good Luck.
Tim

AutoDuck ProImport FCP (The Avid/ProTools to FCP plugin) will, in fact, import Premiere Pro *project files* into FCP. It's kind of a shadow feature, in that they don't really mention it anywhere on the main pages, but it's mentioned somewhere in their support pages. I think. Can't seem to find it anymore.

I have the latest version of AutoDuck FCP, so if you'd like to send me the project file (Or any project file, really) I can give it a shot.

Thanks Tim and Ben for replies,
after couple hours of trying to online in FC, the team that was doing the post production decided to stay in Adobe.
and now I had another issue of transferring timeline from Avid MC to FCP, so I was finally able to export the proper EDL from avid, but right now I am waisting like 10 hours on reconnecting clips to _m proxies in FCP, but avid edl at least opened properly .vs to premier edl.

Ben,

I'm still interested in seeing how this may work,, any way we can make it happen?

Thanks

Jon,
I'm currently in the middle of reinstalling everything after the Snow Leopard upgrade, then I'll be jumping into a music video. But if you shoot me a PM on Friday or Saturday, I should be able to find time over the weekend.
