Transcoding Nightmare

Hey guys,
This is my first go-around with the RED, and I'm having extreme difficulty getting any transcoding done. I've tried using FCP's L&T, REDrushes, AND Clipfinder, all to no avail. The transcoding seems to be working until the process stops on the last frame, every time, with every piece of software.

Using L&T, it processes until the end, then gives me the red exclamation point.

In Clipfinder, after processing the last frame, the program sits. If I try and close out, it asks if I want to stop the render.

In REDrushes, the process will sometimes "finish", but the accompanying file will not open with Quicktime or Final Cut Pro.

I'm on the road, working off of a 2.93 Intel Dual Core MBP with 8G of RAM. I have no access to a desktop for processing. Any help you guys could muster would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It could be disk related issue, so run the first aid and privil. fix first.

I would double-check the files you outputted from Clipfinder. IIRC, unless you change some settings, it keeps the render session alive, even after it's done, so it'll ask you if you want to stop the render.

That said, if you can't get anything out of RA, I doubt CF is producing useful files, since they're both using RedLine.

I have come across one similar case where a set of clips would not render with any software. Try the following
- delete all proxy files (in Finder, open the top directory of your clips, search for .mov, delete)
- rebuild the proxy files with REDrushes or Clipfinder
It's Voodoo, but it did help in the case I mentioned.

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers,
Hans

I had a similar issue, until I realised the destination hard drive I was trying to transcode files to was formatted FAT32 which has a 4GB file size limitation!

Any method I used meant that any footage bigger than 4GB (about 3mins of ProRes422HQ) failed with the red exclamation mark in L&T, and just stopped in other programmes.

Also, if you are rendering across a network, there is a problem where rendering for QucikTime files is aborted when an output size of 2GB is reached.
This is a long standing problem and appears not to have been solved in Snow Leopard.

Cheers,
Hans
