Lighting and Lens Package

Lighting and Lens Package

Can you speak abit about the lighting and lens package? Single camera? Thanks

I wasn't the DP but here's what I can remember.

Yes it was a single camera shoot. Red One #973 owned by Dustin Cross of Sandust Productions.

We mainly used three 150 watt HMI's, as well as a soft bank light, some clamp lights, whatever available light we had on location, and a LOT of bounce and negative fill. We had a few specialty lights, I think it was a 1.2k HMI pointing through one of the windows for some really intense stuff.

Mostly we back lit our actors, utilizing the available light for bounce and fill, and then gave it some depth with the negative fill. We had some cool locations so it made it possible, and the RED can shoot in very very dark places!!

Some things were pushed to 640 but mostly everything was shot at 320. The only time we went up to 1000 ASA was for the part when she stops everybody with her arms, because the sun set and we were basically using the lights inside the parking garage at 120fps! It's a little grainier than the rest but I think it's good enough.

A lot was only utilizing available light.

The lenses were Zeiss Superspeeds prime set, 24mm, 50mm, 85mm, and I want to say 135mm but I'd have to get back to you on that one.

It was fun though, we didn't have anything between a 24mm and a 50mm because the 35mm was in the shop for repairs, which made things interesting when picking my shots!

Hi everybody,

Just got done wrapping up on this Trailer for a feature film I'm trying to get produced! It was shot on the RED.

hi, pro and cons: imho---you asked for it :)

pro:
story idea is promising
nice vfx

con:
the acting of the leading actress is weak.
the costumes and make up effects are bad
trailer is too long

Really nice! Great look, fantastic use of locations. I agree about the lead girl, not as strong as the others.

Did you have any budget for this or was it all guerrilla?

Again, well done!
Jim

Looks promising.

When the chic is getting her directives at the start, the male's voice seemed a bit young and un-authoritive, apart from that pretty cool.

Doc.

That's my voice! Ha! i need to hire an actor and do some vocal work! it's still a work in progress, just wanted to get some feedback from people. I literally recorded that as a temp track using the built in microphone in my macbook pro.

Un-authoritive eh? I should work on that if I'm to be a director!

Thank you for your honesty! I appreciate it! I think that it'll really help sell the story in a shorter format as well!

It was slightly (or lightly) budgeted, I'm trying to change the way things are done here in austin so I payed everybody for their time (not much, but a little). Most indie projects in Austin are deferred pay and so a lot of people end up working for free, which isn't the end of the world and I'm not knocking anybody who does that either, I just wanted to make sure I let people know I appreciated their time and effort.

We didn't pay for any locations, but we did get permission to shoot there.

I didn't pay my composer, which has to change on the next project because he's awesome! His name is Fredrik Blom and he's based out of sweden!

lol, Can you imagine if you were a director, and had the movie trailer guys voice.

......On a set right here......Right now.....ACTION!!!!.....

Doc.

Ha! Well considering I really WAS the director of this piece, hopefully that's not what I sound like on set! :P

Normally I just whip my actors and tell them they're doing a bad job. Then I get them drunk and we start rolling the camera. Works every time.

Thank you all for your feedback! A 90 sec trailer has been cut (well, more like 100 seconds....) and I will be posting that this weekend (which is why the longer version is set to private now). I would love some more feedback when you all get the chance!

in the meantime if you would like to check out the video it's still embedded on my personal website www.amfmstudios.com at the very top.

thanks!
