  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Touchscreen VS......?

TV LOGIC 5.6" is solid.

I am thinking that i ll not buy the touch screen as i don t like screen you touch with your hand .

So i am wondering wich screen i could buy instead ?

Wich screen would by instead the touch screen ? Or do you think te touch screen is the best screen for the red scarlet ?

The Touch screen is just a good little on board monitor powered by the camera... don't use it as a touch screen then? just use it as a monitor?
But once you start using it as a touch screen you will quickly find how quick it is to flaick through menus... adjusting speeds, colour, kelvin, etc etc in seconds....

We do a lot of huge shoots with way to much camera gear on set... Sometimes the EPIC has so much gear attached to it, it looks ridiculous. Sometimes the camera assistants like building monsters...
But what I like to do is strip it down to nothing and the 5inche being part of that nouthing... It does make for very quick shooting with little to no stress...
You cannot get the EPIC or SCARLET any smaller or easier without the touch screen.

Plus its good for when your running around doing low shots, keeps your rig small and solid... know after maker screen flopping around on an arm weighted down with batteries to run it...
Whe n your camera is on a rig, crane, mount or something and you want to keep it small... the screen is solid and swivels and you can adjust settings fast...
We put outs on a motor bike the other day, would have been a real pain with any other monitor other than a 5 Inche RED touch... I could adjust speeds etc while riding... (dangerous but doable)

But is the screen really good under any light circumscontances ? And really good to see where you focus clearly under action situation ?

yes it is... more so than the TV logic. the TV logic is not so bright.. but it is sharp...

If you could, I'd own both.

Mark, how do you find the outrigger handle ? Does it feel strange NOT being at the same level with the side handle when holding both ?

For this reason, I was considering a Wooden Camera handle which is straight...

The biggest selling feature of the RED touch LCD for me is the fact that it allows you to attach a 2nd monitor through HDMI or HD-SDI very necessary for most shoots i'll be on when you want to have a directors monitor up. Of course the viewfinder would accomplish the same thing but it's more expensive and you can't control the camera via the EVF.

You can control the camera via EVF + custom settings.....

SmallHD's DP6 works pretty well. I plan on using that in addition to RED's Touch 5" LCD for focusing.

The DP6 is SOLID. Get the SDI version, and you can loop through to a 2nd SDI monitor. Very sharp, handles R1/Epic/Scarlet very well, and absolutely bulletproof. We've used the heck out of them and will definitely be using them on the Scarlet, in addition to the Touchscreen, depending on configuration needed.
