  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

TOTAL RECALL shoots EPIC

I was at first hesitant about this movie. But am starting to be a bit more excited about it as time goes on. I think they could possibly do some interesting things with it.
I guess only time will tell. I saw this comparison to the original thought I'd share.

beautiful work!!!

which LOMO lenses did you use and did you have diopters for the cus?

Saw this today. First, speaking as a Reduser: another film that looked absolutely STUNNING. By watching this film I can only imagine how Blade Runner could look shot on Epic. It looks, IMHO, better than Prometheus. The film has excellent cinematography and amazing set design. Well done to the creative team.

The film was a pleasant surprise. It's no Verhoeven, so no "camp" and his unique style of humor here, but the story is well told , good performances from the cast. One needs in certain key plot developments to "switch off" the brain, but these moments, again, are surprisingly few- less than in the new Batman film for example. Good time at the movies. some Easter eggs in there for the fans of the Verhoeven film, but I won't spoil those to you guys. Highly recommended and a good reference for picture quality in a Red Epic production. go see it!

Just a side note: there's a bit of a overuse of an "anamorphic flare" effect, as well as a very "interesting" use of focusing. Nothing that spoils the beautiful composition, camera movement and cinematography. It just felt to me a bit too much. But I enjoyed it!

EDIT- and great soundtrack!

Well, there's a chance that Ridley Scott will decide to shoot Blade Runner 2 on the EPICs again, especially if the Dragon update will be available at that time. Prometheus 2 (or it's called Paradise now?) too. They're shooting The Counselor on Epics right now, if I'm not mistaken.

After seeing this I think there can be no more concerns from Hollywood about the performance of the Epic. I have to admit I didn't like some in-spaceship dialogue scenes in Prometheus in terms of colors, but loved the colors and skin tones In the dialogue scenes in Spiderman. This one is the best of bOth worlds: flawless skin tones and fantastic look in the sci-fi World, not overly Saturated as in Spider man ( aesthetic choice, I know) but not as "strangely unorganic" as in Prometheus. This is obviously my own, humble opinion, of course. As a member of the audience, this film is "reference quality".

BTW, the trailer for this looked terrific in Imax when I saw it in front of The Dark Kight Rises. The footage looked better than the upscaled 35mm during TDKR.

HOWEVER, the trailer for Skyfall looked equally good.

I think it is the lack of grain in digital that suits the Imax DMR process more than resolution pre-se. I used to think an 8K or 9K res camera would have to compete with full res Imax, now I'm thinking a 6K medium-format (or even 35mm full frame) sized sensor would suffice.

Sometimes grain is good... but not for Imax. :)
