Is it a 1080p feed or better? Is it clean? Please give me more details about this feature…

It's 1080p in this build.

You can select the output as Preview (i.e with look around, framing guides, ) or Program (i.e clean feed output)

I don't know... I wasn't that into what ET was showing on the Epic... Methinks they have invested most of their efforts into their amazing 3D rigs and not so much into new camera accessories. The aluminum vent cover was nifty, but an expensive replacement for the plastic one that comes on the camera. Personally, I would do it differently. Their top plate sits high, to make room for said vent cover, and potentially the wireless communications. The top plate from Brook and VF is definitely superior in this regard. I didn't like how the ET top plate mates with the bridge adapter at the rear. It has that thin 1/8" lip that overlaps. While it's still solid due to how it bolts together, I'm just not a fan of the design and see a few ways it could be improved quite a bit. Like I said, Brook's top plate is better. Wooden Camera has a nifty one too that will take an Arri standard dovetail too. Should be interesting.

They were using the same Arri base plate as we have for the RED One. The ~1/2" shim plate between it and the camera is nothing more than a chunk of aluminum filler. The same type of filler piece that was on Offhollywood's "BOND" Epic 007 at the O'Connor booth. That shim plate is a quick-fix whipped up in a few minutes. There's a huge opportunity here to create a real baseplate system. Just look at RED's own quick-release system.

I'm not lovin' the 15mm lightweight rod adapter up front either. There's gotta be a better way.

Oh, and the L-bracket for the BOMB EVF on the ET EVF mount... Meh. that was a quickie band-aid solution several months ago. I was hoping to see some more options by now, possibly a whole new and more compact BOMB mounting solution.

I'm not trying to bash ET here, even though it probably looks that way. To me it shows they have most of their efforts concentrated elsewhere. Which is fine. At least they are thinking about Epic, but I didn't see anything on an Epic from them that I felt was ready for prime time. The top handle was pretty in some ways, but I like RED's better.

10. FILMLOG2 444 3G HDSI OUT OF EPIC.... with all the recorders coming out this will really come in handy.

I'm not up to speed on third party recorders yet but the Sound Devices Pix looks smart.

PIX

It doesn't match the 444 EPIC HD-SDI, but goes up to ProRes 422HQ, which is still pretty good. And it's nice and compact. Could be good for the corporate/industrial clients who want to walk out with footage at the end of the day.

It seems like EVERYONE is in the portable solid-state recorder business this year.... EVERYONE.

The new Convergent Design with 3G 4:4:4 gets the win, IMO. OTOH, most all cameras that people are hooking them up to will only output 4:2:2 and many only at 8bit. For those, the AJA KiPro is great and also the Atomos Ninja (HDMI) and Samurai (HD-SDI) seem pretty cool. I haven't really used any of them though.

Anyway, last year was all about HDSLRs and 3D. This year it's about making 3D better and recording better images from those cameras... With all the third-party recorders out there and the various modular systems being shown. I don't think we're too far off from buying camera heads from one manufacturer and then buying our processing/recording module from another company. Especially since most of the big camera companies haven't figured out that people want more than 20Mbps 8bit AVC or H.264...

Wow! Good point Jeff.

Agreed. Definitely a huge opportunity for Brook / VF and others.

I was hoping for another solution by now too. I will give my ET EVF mount a try since I have all the accessories for it. But if it is too heavy and bulky, I may just have to go with the Red Arm instead : (
