OK.

This is for the NON TATTOO crowd, as in, "we" the users who have not been annointed and selected by RED to particpate.

What are the top five things you would ask RED to do differently on the release of their second camera?
What do you think they can do better compared to the RED ONE release?

Here is a short list to get started.

Remember, this is an exercise to have a positive voice and feedback for RED, dont' hold back. be honest.

Mine.

1. Camera software, post software and SDK are released SIMULTANEOUSLY.
2. Camera body specs are released early so that 3rd party accessories can be built and it's more than a "red only" option.
3. PL, NIKON, Canon all available from the get go.
4. REAL TIME REDCODE option. (IE: RC 10)
5. More FACTS Less HYPE.
6. More clear PUBLIC education on features and use FROM RED (IE: best practices)
7. omitted
8. BULLETPROOF (I don't care how long that takes)

OK. I know it's eight but it's a start.

Personally I don't care what they do ... I'm along for the ride ... it's all fun no matter which way it goes ....

re: #1 we will not get everything simultaneously unless we wait for the slowest part.

Red always appreciates posts like yours when they are presented in a respectful tone.

I've seen many times when Jim, Jarred, or Graham have complimented non-A listers.

Cheers.

The webstore could indicate if an item is chronically backordered or available particularly if it is an essential item. Give the buyer a chance to make an early workaround decision.

I'm kinda nostalgic for the old way that R-1 was rolled out. You didn't get a polished stainless steel toolset... you got a spanner that you and they adjusted on. Never boring. I think Epic and then later, Scarlet will just be camera tools. The R-1 was interactive emotion. There may never be an experience like that for another hundred years. We who were there will tell our grandkids about it. (oops, better get busy... don't even have kids yet.)

#8 is my only wish. Take as long as you need to make Epic bulletproof.

I'm not in to Beta testing. And I'm tired of defending RED.

No excuses. No bugs.

Take your time.
Spoken like a man who (finally:angry:) has his M-X.

I shot with my MX today! How did you know?
Not angry anymore - happy to have it!

In shows, Dylan... it shows. And didn't you know? Everyone on Reduser knows everyone else's business:party:

1. An ability to delete clips on the fly, while shooting, in the field.

2. Some type of Adobe Bridge style programs so I can browse, move, delete and manage my R3D clips on my PC.

3. Less Mac-centric support.. more parity for PC users. Especially given that Mac represents only a tiny percentage of computer users. With the rise of Adobe Premiere as a Red editing tool, a PC can be built for half the cost of a Mac.

4. 1080p monitoring with full Red data on monitor.

Have the ability to slice R3D files, so that we can get the portion we want/need, without the need to transcode; just get a trimmed R3D.

I'd love the ability to break R3D files into pieces while recording - this would be great for interview situation, where I'd want to separate sections, but without stopping/starting the camera.

I'd second the ability to delete clips (and I know that this has been discussed; big shows hate that idea, but for documentary/ENG this would be invaluable).

Would love an option where you could channel one audio source to two recording channels with different gain settings.

Would like to have a display during recording that shows the length of the take (if played back at the project's speed) - especially during time lapse recordings.

Would really like to be able to record different project settings on the same disc; i.e. sometimes I am out shooting for a client, but I also might see something that could work for a different project I am working on, that just happens to be in a different ratio.

Ability to switch very quickly from 2k/highest speed to 4/5k project speed, without having to go through several layers of menu settings.

As said in the OP, it'd be awesome to have Canon support from the beginning. (Jarred has already stated that the Canon mount is finished.)

Would be cool if one could select and extract stills in camera and then get those send via wifi to a nearby laptop.

Ability to get a live still from the camera to the redmote. I know that video won't be available, but just getting a still might be useful in some situations.

To get the 10 full, I'd appreciate it if the RED store would give away more information about the items, including full technical specs and multiple pictures of each product.

As long as this feature can be locked off by an AC/DIT, preferable with a PIN code, definitely.

4. 1080p monitoring with full Red data on monitor.

Would love 2, 3 would be a love of many people.

Yep improvement to the web-store would be high on my list, when I recommend a camera to a producer/DoP, people will check it out on the website, if they look at a Sony there are pages of technical detail and in depth coverage, not so much on the RED store.

Settings need a few user assignable buttons, assignable to any menu option.

While I personally love the excitement and beta test nature of the One, clients despise it with good reason, so I have to say wait until its bulletproof, even if I would prefer to have something a bit rougher clients dont.

My list:

1. More compatible with industry standards: base plates, batteries, cables, recording media
2. Running less hot
3. More intuitive user interface
4. Higher quality accessories
5. More testing on the set
6. More consistency in RED software tools

About point 6: RedCine is discontinued, RedRushes is discontinued, RedAlert is discontinued, RocketCine-X is discontinued, RedCine-X is in beta, RedLine is in beta, RSX is replaced by RMD but not supported by other software than RedCine-X...

I think it would be good to have at least one option that just works.

As others already said, having the ability to trim and rename clips is crucial for documentary style shooting. I would also like to see an alternative way of auto-labelling footage:
File names like A021_C012_0721BF.RDC certainly are nice for narrative work, but I'd prefer a time based format, e.g. A021_100721_1321 (yymmdd_hhmm).

Thanks,
Oliver

It'd be cool to have a 'mark' option on the Redmote to put markers in clips. Similar to what MArtin said but without necessarily breaking the clip up.

What Martin said.
