Hey guys. I was just in a bicycle shop today and as I was looking at the hand grips, I came across this one from Ergon and it's really comfortable: http://www.ergon-bike.com/us/en/product/gp1

I was thinking the shape would ideal for a top handle because unlike a round handle which spins in your hand, this paddle shape allows you to easily rotate your wrist and control the camera when carrying it (so you're not banging your EVF against your thigh). It also makes it easier to level the camera when just holding the top handle to shoot in low mode.

That being said, are there any top handles on the market that aren't just round? Does anybody know if you can just pull the rubber off the RED Sliding Top Handle and replace it with standard bicycle grips? Maybe the second option below would be more appropriate? :)

So far my favorite grips are the ones from Allstar.

Looks like Wooden camera has what you are looking for. I assume you can use the side handle as the top handle by lossing those 4 screws on top and swapping out leather handles, but I'm sure Wooden guys can clarify. I guess you'd have to like leather too :)

I'm making a handle that will take bicycle grips, so you can install the grip of your choice. It will have other cool features as well. More in about 4 weeks.

Having said that, I really dig the leather handles from Wooden Camera. I think I read somewhere that they'll be making a nato rail version as well.

Awesome, Adam. I look forward to seeing what you're making. I'm also still curious if the RED handle is a standard bike grip diameter. That would open up a ton of options since there are thousands of custom bicycle grips (which are way cheaper than camera grips).

You guys may check out the one I specially design for mine Epic-M,
on both side you can see their are safety stop, and also got tight down screw from the center of handle, double guaranty...
First prototype came out 2 months ago, still correct some of the out look design, on the production soon...

They look nice. Any other pictures with them mounted on an Epic. What's going to be the price? Thx

By the way, our top and side handles are bicycle grip standard so you could swap them out with anything you want. The rubber is nearly impossible to get off so if you plan to switch them out, the locking leather is the way to go.

FYI Red's grip is not the same as bicycle grips.

Another point to mention Julio, is the first grip you have pictured is not good for our handle as it only locks on the bottom.

Hi Bob!

Thanks your kind of word, here's the setup on mine Epic-M...

Cheers

Jarek, I like that Allstar handle, but I'm not sure how to attach it to the top of the Epic. Combining it with the following two pieces looks close, but not quite:

do they fit with the clutch?

The rosette part can rotate 90 degrees, so yes you can mount it directly to the swat/rosette clamp from the RED store. The grips come with a choice of either ARRI or RED style Rosettes. The ones pictured most are ARRI, but you can get the ones that fit the clutch and all of REDs other stuff.
