Hey Everyone,

I recently went to Iceland, and I took everything I could possibly take with me. I had my RED Scarlet, Canon 7D, Inspire 1, and all the lenses I could fit in my book-bag. I know, thats a lot to take with you on vacation, but what can I say. I shot 7 days worth of footage, mostly on my Scarlet. Once I got back to the states, I got in the editing room, and made a small video. I actually got to show it at one of the RED Events in Miami, and I thought it would also be awesome to share it on the forum. Hope you guys enjoy it.

Feel free to ask me any questions..... and yes, it was cold lol.

Equipment Used:
  • RED Scarlet X w/ Canon Mount
  • Prime Circle XM Series Lenses (50mm, 85mm)
  • Zeiss ZE 35mm Prime
  • Sigma 10-20mm Zoom
  • Canon EOS 7D (Used for Long Exposures, and Night Time Lapses)
  • DJI Inspire 1 (X3 Camera)

This is Awesome! Sorry for reviving a thread! But not really sorry haha. I'm actually thinking of going to Iceland in Feb. What advice do you have for ensuring the care of your camera? I hear the weather changes every 10 min.

Ha ha, glad you liked it man. There not much to do for the camera while your there. The camera naturally runs HOT, so it wont freeze or build up frost inside the body, but I wouldn't go shooting at night if theres moisture in the air. You will start to see ice grow on the camera. Its actually pretty amazing and scary at the same time but this only happened to me when I was near a waterfall, so you should be fine otherwise. If its snowing or your near a waterfall during the day, just keep a eye on the top vent to make sure nothing drips in. I usually had my hand over the vent as I moved around, or a bag. The weather is only random if your moving around. If you go from one town to another, the weather will drastically change. For example, Reykjavik which is the capital was extremely sunny, but then I drove 20 miles outside the city, and it was a blizzard, but once I drove another 10 miles, it became sunny again. Also, not sure if your going to take a drone, but flight time is drastically lower when its cold. So find a way to keep the batteries as warm as possible, or your 25min battery will turn into a 5min battery. I had my drone with me for a entire week, and only got about 4 shots, which you see 2 of them in the video. I would have a 100% battery, and it would drop down to 25% in 10mins.

Feel free to ask me any other questions, and enjoy Iceland man. Its amazing country, and I loved every minute of it. I plan to go back in the Summer next year, maybe shoot a short film. Theres so much production value in the landscape. Cant wait to go back.

This is great information! Thanks for that! If you've got any places that you'd recommend visiting, I'd love to hear it!
