Longest title thread I have ever written (not saying much).

Not seeing as much footage from the Epic-M as I'd like to see!

I'm currently overseas prepping for my thesis film to shoot in October and have an Epic on the way.

I asked my kid brother to shoot a test for me to see how hard the workflow was.

He shot a 300 fps (of course) test at 2K. He says he's too scared to leave the house with the camera so he kept the camera in the garage and zoomed in.

Unfortunately, I don't have drop dead gorgeous semi nude babes like Ketch to shoot so I settled for the next best (only) thing I had: a man with a hose.

Hope you have minimal curse words for me. :)

Hope to see more footage from people. Semi nude babes, if possible.

The post workflow for this tiny test was mindblowingly alerting as a non Red Rocket owner. A 13 minute 300 fps clip at 2K too over 3 hours to transcode to a 720 file to bring into an older version of Premiere.

Should I leap to the Red Rocket? Red herring?

That's the problem with kids. They want to act like men, asking for semi nude babes, but they're still the little boys crying for their mom, scared to leave the house. Where are the real men ?

;-)

@Kristin
IMHO. There is a serious shortage of real men. Watch TV commericals, it becomes all to obvious.

@Andy. Your brother could get out more, he can still water the lawn if he gets super bored. The dalmation t-shirt is cute.

Great video.

Sorry. I was also reffereing to this video which I thought was the one you posted.

There is some nice slomo here of a toy car collection, a balloon collection, a water gun seems to work (when targeted at someone's eye), bubble blowing here.

Another stellar example of 300fps

You should first leap to a newer version of Premier and there would be no transcoding.

Seriously; you can download the software and run a 30 day trial.

Yep, totally agree. Adobe CS5.5 with the Adobe Labs Epic plugin is outstanding and doesn't require any transcoding whatsoever.

If you're on a Mac and have been using Final Cut, Avid or Edius, they are offering a 50% crossgrade deal that is a fantastic bargain!

HTH aqnd thanks for sharing your test!

Cheers from Tokyo,

Paul :)

apologies. people seem to take things so literal. i was just joking. i hope it wasn't taken the wrong way.

just wanted something shot as a test is all. to test a workflow. apologies if i am depicted as a "macho" man. apologies if any offense was taken. not intended.

@todd and paul, thanks guys.

yea, i will definitely look into premiere's plugin and upgrade.

my brother is into the premiere nle system, but im a conservative when it comes to changing platforms.

i just may be shooting for clients and not be involved with the post process, but i think it might be essential if i am to deliver them footage that they can cut and work offline, no?

thanks guys,

andy

Wow this is funny. The potential for laughs at 300 fps should not be underestimated. Imagine a 30 second spit-take!

If your clients cannot edit R3D files and transcoding is an integral part of your services you should not hesitate to get a Rocket.

If the cost of the Rocket is a consideration for you, then you have several alternatives to explore:

a) run the Premier trial and see if the transcode performance is acceptable
b) add a bucket-full of RAM and/or a decent RAID to you current computer. (this will usually improve performance on everything)
c) borrow or rent a dedicated PC/Mac tower for transcoding.
d) borrow or rent a rocket and test Redcine X and Premier again (Premier also utilizes the Rocket)

Just finishing up a project for W hotels. Post is almost done. Will post something soon :)

I just directed a MMA themed music video last weekend with the Epic-M...complete with ring girls, and no shortage of slow motion. It looks amazing. We wrap the post offline edit Monday or Tuesday, color it by the weekend and I will be excited to post a link when it's all locked. The Epic is amazing. I can't wait to have one to call my own.
