First off, get your mind out of the gutter. I was talking about the EPIC!!!
At long last, I finally got to see it in person and hold the camera. It was pretty darn inspiring I must say
Here are my thoughts:
- It's LIGHT! Very easy to handhold, yet just enough weight to make it much more stable in handheld shots than DSLRs. Ted was passing it around and it was impressive how stable everyone was able to keep it just by holding the battery grip with their right hand, and their left hand on the left side of the brain ...
- Even though it's light, I wouldn't want to hold it all day. And I think when you throw on all the other accessories, it would too much for extended shooting on those small DSLR-type rigs (like Zacuto and RRMicro offer). (Ted must be getting very strong!) ...
- Shoulder mounted it will be a DREAM. So much lighter than what everyone is used to with the Red One and big battery packs. Even with a heavy lens like a Master Prime, follow focus, etc you probably come in under 20 pounds and perhaps close to 15 -- making it so easy to maneuver around...
- And speaking of lenses -- I'm not a big Canon fan but they should seriously pay Red a commission because Red is going to help them sell a s%@!load of their L-prime autofocus lenses. Ted had the 85mm f1.2 and it rocked -- wide open the depth of field was so shallow and looked lovely ... (seriously the Epic-S and some L-primes will be a GREAT combo for those who want a fantastic look on a budget)
- Also the touch focus was killer. All Ted had to do was touch on the screen/person he wanted to focus on and it would rack focus beautifully -- both accurately and quickly. I was seriously impressed.
Did I mention Ted is a great guy? Super nice, full of information and so gracious letting everyone get a chance to check the EPIC out.
Anyway, I'm soooo glad I went -- thanks to Red and Creatasphere for putting on an awesome event and building the camera filmmakers all over the world are waiting for.
2011 is going to be a phenomenal year :emote_happyhappy:
