  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tonight 7:pm PST FCP Supermeet- Switchers or Quitters

I'll believe the "all realtime, all the time" and "auto detect faces/shots/clean up audio/auto balance/auto organize" when I see it. Lots of interesting things shown tonight, but way, way, way too many unanswered questions. How do you even mute a track?

Darrell-I think you're partly right...about DVD SP and maybe Compressor (though I doubt it...).

I wonder if anyone here ever uses Soundtrack Pro the way several people have said FCP X incorporated it. It is primarily a LOOPING MUSIC COMPOSITION program! There is absolutely ZERO, NONE, NADA of that in FCP X. Yes, some more mixing elements have been added to FCP X, but Soundtrack Pro is entirely a different beast.

I do think they may separate these apps. Makes sense to do that...in a downloadable software world.

We still don't know the details. But with the proposed meta tagging and ingest, onset playback and storage just went futuristic. what about enterprise solutions like with FCP server?

Curious about Server too.

I use soundtrack pro for noise reduction - Logic doesn't do that internally, it has an option to send to Soundtrack Pro it's pretty slick the way it works right now. Maybe they'll change that to send to FCP X?

looking at the timeline, there are tons of things that are way too radical. Actually pretty scary

My partner is not impressed he wants to know if it will run on PC?

Seems like more of a PC limitation than an Apple limitation - I can load windows, and therefore any program that runs on a PC on my Mac no Hacks involved. Bill Gates should probably build a better platform ;)

Oh my lord. I can't take this.

This isn't even close to Final Cut Express...only the price is. Sheesh...never mind. I give up...this is silly. People need to wait and get it before drawing these types of judgements. They just rattled off about 30 great new features and all people are doing is knocking it. Oy.

You must learn to just skim the bullshit posts. I agree with you completely, but don't let them get to you. If a post starts with a question, skip. Just build your own set of rules, hahaha.

He was being sarcastic, I kept rumbling about all the cool features to him. So he's like "it does everything huh, does it run on PC?". :+)

Actually, this is just a preview of the most important features. For all we know the music composition stuff is buried in there but not something they wanted to highlight.

I wish they had the suite with a $299 upgrade price because I really do like using Motion and Soundtrack Pro. If they stay standalone, I think both of those programs will be relatively cheap. But I think it's far more likely that bits and pieces of Motion and Shake will be combined to produce a much more powerful $299 animation program, and Soundtrack Pro will either be a $75 standalone program or integrated with Final Cut.

One final curveball: Soundtrack Pro and Motion currently include enormous numbers of template and audio files that span multiple DVDs. I'm not sure how such a massive download works for the app store model, but I don't see Apple going back to DVD distribution. Perhaps the content will be downloaded on an as-needed basis?

Interestingly enough, Logic Pro and Logic Express are not available on the App Store either.

It might well be that Apple abandons Soundtrack Pro and suggests we upgrade to Logic Express or Logic Pro, which will both gain some of Soundtrack Pro's features. In the mean time, we still have the old versions of Soundtrack Pro and Motion, which work just fine for their current capabilities.

I think that once editors are more familiar with the new interface, they will like it better. It looks like there is the potential to save a lot of time in logging, which is, quite honestly, a crucial but extremely boring part of editing. If we could reduce that burden by identifying clips through poster images instead of text descriptions typed manually, that might be a real help for many people. Combine it with Audition to quickly select the best clip from a set of related clips, and we might actually have a great new workflow.

Just like older versions, the new Final Cut is going to be more sprawling and complex for a single demo to give us a good flavor. I suspect less than 1/10th of the program was showed off at NAB. Let's keep an open mind, shall we?

I’m in charge of post for a television production company in the U.S. After watching the presentation, I’m very excited about this new version of FCP. It will definitely be one heck of a learning curve - it’s a whole new program! But after seeing so many features in the demo that will make my work easier, faster, and more creative, I’m excited about learning FCP X. This is NOT iMovie Pro. This is what a modern day NLE should look and act like. I’m excited.

I don't think it will be much of a learning curve. It looks like Aperture - even my cat was up and running on Aperture in five minutes. The more I look at this new program, the more I like what I see.

I agree. Having watched the full demo it appears to be very powerful, yet intuitive.

One thing though, it was mentioned in the video that they did away with FCE and any FCP upgrade price, so $299 for all. A steal, I think.

Any info on whether FCP-X will run on Snow Leopard? The June release has me wondering if it will coincide with possible Lion release at the WWDC in June.
