  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sorry if this has been dealt before in another post.

I've tried to make some night time long-exposure "time-lapse" shots with in-camera frame processing in my Scarlet-X, and have had problems with the stability of the tones in the image. The darker areas of the image (most of the image area) seem to "flicker" in a random rhythm, if I've used the frame processing – either Frame Summing or Frame Averaging. (I'm not speaking of the noise in the image.)

Now, if I'm shooting with the same exposure time without frame processing, the tones seem to be stable. There's no noticeable "flickering", even with 1sec exposure.

So, as an example:
1sec exposure without frame processing (framerate 1fps) => no problems
1sec exposure with frame averaging 16frames (framerate 1/16.15fps) => flickering
I suppose the extra 0.15fps (16.15fps instead of 16fps) comes from the in-camera processing.

One would presume that with Frame Averaging the result would be better when the camera is merging/averaging several frames into one. However, that is clearly not happening. There's of course less noise in the image after averaging frames (that is partly my aim too), but the flicker is disturbing.

Does anybody know why this happens, and how to get over this problem? One can of course record without the in-camera frame processing and do the summing or averaging in post. But that's not a solution due to huge file sizes.

Yes, I've BS calibrated the camera several times to what ever exposure time I'm using, and BS does not seem to be the issue. I've shot 5K, RC6:1 and RC3:1

Thanks in advance!

Yes,

I have seen this. Might be a good idea to file a support ticket.
