My newest Short Experiemental “Tomoe & Caitlyn” is a fast-paced real action "Fantasy Mashup" in the typical anime style.
The filming took place in August 2015 near the town of Waedenswil (Zurich) Switzerland. Despite the tremendous heat and an unexpected thunderstorm, we was able to capture all the images within only a few hours. We used a Red Epic-X with some PrimeCircle / LockCircle Prime Lenses. For some shots we put the Epic in to a Ronin.
The characters "Officer Caitlyn" from the RPG game "League of Legends" and "Mami Tomoe" from the anime / manga "Puella Magi Madoka Magica" were freely combined with other fantasy elements from various movies and Japanese anime to create this special Fantasy Mashup.
The numerous and elaborate visual effects were realized under the leadership of Andreas Tanner assisted by David Fritsche and Sergio Herencias. The short film was based on an idea of Sergio Herencias, who directed it and was responsible for the editing, sound design and post production.
The project was considered as part of an internal Research and Development phase of Guave Motion (swiss based production-company), where we tested a new render engine, and elaborated modern workflows. Through this process we were able to adapt the internal pipeline, which will greatly enhance the efficiency of future projects.
