  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tokina cine 11-16

Hadn't seen this - thanks for posting :)

All my lenses are cine/antique... so this looks nice - just need a PL mount.

Seems odd there's no PL on the 11-16 considering there's a PL on the 16-28.

Fantastic Value on 11-16....now how about 16-50 and 50-130 Zooms??

I saw it at NAB. The rep said that a PL was in the works. The focus, iris, and zoom were smooth but the focus pull distance is the same as the still version. The gears and body were solid feeling though. Seems like it is worth the upgrade for most people, especially if/when the PL version comes out.

Basically, they saw a lot of folks doing business by rehousing this prime and thought "why aren't we doing this?".

No one has changed the focus throw though.

Good for Tokina for stepping up and meeting the needs of their customers. I'm sure they'll put out a PL mount version soon enough. And at $2k, that would be one of the cheapest PL mount cinema lenses I've ever seen.

Any news on the release yet?

I don't think a longer focus throw would benefit this particular lens. The depth of field is so great at 11mm that a longer focus throw would just make it a pain to rack focus. Normally with still photo lenses I would agree and suggest a longer throw or if you're simply focusing by hand without a follow focus, but the focus rotation in this case is pretty convenient. I'm looking forward to getting a sample of the new 11-16mm Tokina shortly. Although, I don't think that much has changed other than a fatter ring at the back for zoom and a new ring for iris.

If that's all that's changed, then it may not be worth the extra $1000 they are charging.

So in your estimation how would the Tokina 11-16mm compare to the Zeiss CP.2 at the equivalent focal length of 15mm?
Did you happen to shoot/make any direct comparisons?
