  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tokina 11-16mm

thanks gentleman. so much can be forgotten in 20 years of virtually no "camera" work.... but thats what ya get when ya play in post.... :whistling:

Thanks for posting Sanjin

Guys,

just to give you an idea about angles of view with different focal lengths,

the pictures taken from Tamron's lens calatog.

Thanks for the Angles of View Image and for posting the Canon footage.

Forgive my ignorance, but looking at images of the tokina, I cant see a manual f stop ring. I could just be blind. I gave up on a lot of my nikon lenses for this reason and we went straight to a set of the zeiss nikons. Is there a way around not having a manual ring that ive missed?

Id love to be able to get away with a few of my nikon zooms to save having to carry quite so much weight around on the smaller shoots.

(Once again, sorry if this is now common knowledge, i did a search but couldnt see anything about it)

Hey all, First post! :)

Does anyone know if the tokina 11 - 16 with canon mount will have full electronic control on the EPIC's? ie. aperture, auto focus?

Or for that matter will all the third party lenses for canon ( tokina, tamron, sigma etc..) be fully functional on the epic's? just like the canon-canon lenses?

Sorry if this has been answered before elsewhere!
Thinking about picking this up for my 5D as a cheap 16mm prime sort of thing.. will i do the epic wait :)

Cheers,
LA

It should. They need to program/calibrate the control for each new lens individually but the Tokina is very popular so Red might even have support for it from the beginning. I sure hope so. I think they said they completed all L series, and the Tokina is a very nice addition to the wide end of their zooms.

This is an excellent lens. I've used it on many productions.

an f 2.8 lens at 11 mm? Great specialty lens for the price.

Image is solid. Yes, its not as wide as the Canon 10-16, but its faster.
Duclos has a de-clicked manual iris.
I could care less about the lack of range of this lens, I just want wide!

Highly recommended.

Excellent Lens and worst (THK) customer service (lol)

Thanks! Ordering now :)

Canon 10-22 is still much much better option.

I still do not get what's people driving crazy????

Maybe Nikons are getting a bit seduced with it but

Nikon 14-24 is a modern optical lecture about zoom lens design.

Also we have to protect ourself from any sort of LENS populism

right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Canon is very good and Nikon to follow, Tokina OK but...

Also people have to read about a basic in lens design just to understand a bit of the optical or physical rules.

I tested both - Tokina is actually better on all fronts.

I also have the Sigma 8-16. Great for 3K shooting and staying wide.
Makes the Tokina seem like a telephoto. Sharp.

Just bought it today. On my EPIC it seems to vignette at 11mm but looks ok from 12MM onwards. Sharp and cheap!

Figured out our problem with aperature control on our Tokina 11-16. With the button depressed, it's possible to turn the lens too far when attaching it, and the pins don't line up. Make sure to only press the button when taking the lens off, not putting it on.

Do you have a Tokina to compare with? I'd love to see a distortion comparison between them at 11mm. According to the tests, the Sigma should blow the Tokina away (in this particular regard, not necessarily overall)...
