Just received the Tokina 11-16mm super wide angle and I'm still laughing at just how nice the lens is for the money. It's crazy. $585 including shipping from Adorama. It may be a Nikon mount, but I have an additional 12K in my pocket.:bleh:

sounds good Leo, can you give me an idea of the FOV compared to the red 18 to 50 or any 18mm for that matter. thanks

I don't have the 18-50 RED lens to campare but the lens is very wide. Just a simple observation.....at 11mm, 4 feet from a 6' tall person, I have them head to toe with some headroom to spare.....trust me, it's wide. Much wider than $585 worth....lol...

I do a lot of resort work and this will be a great lens for shooting interiors. Very very pleased.....still laughing

That Tokina is a KILLER lens. I wish we'd have had it when we shot our feature, but it arrived too late. But, boy, that is one sweet, distortion-free lens. Amazing at any price. Truly stunning for the money.

One more thing. I have a HJ-11 for my HDX900 which has a very similar FOV and quality.....I paid 23K for it.

Just the lens I've been looking for to shoot hotel room interiors. How fast is this lens?

Since this zoom hasn't been developped for full frame camera, what has the wider lens you reach in 35mm ?

Canon 10-22 is still much much better option.

I still do not get what's people driving crazy????

Maybe Nikons are getting a bit seduced with it but

Nikon 14-24 is a modern optical lecture about zoom lens design.

Also we have to protect ourself from any sort of LENS populism

right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Canon is very good and Nikon to follow, Tokina OK but...

Also people have to read about a basic in lens design just to understand a bit of the optical or physical rules.

I bet that Nikon is excellent, I have heard very nice things of it, also of the Canon which is a big step up in FOV, especially establishing IMO where you don't necessarily need to have anything close to your lens. Wide open establishing exteriors benefit so much from the 10mm, I guess is what I am trying to say. Though the 11 has the same balance of powers. Ok course forget my opinions as I am no DP, but I tend to have an issue with stuff in the foreground on supawide lenses. I stuff that is really close of course, like anything less than 6-8 feet away, or something like that at least...

But you have to admit Sanjin, that this Tokina is quite the optically accurate 11mm. And it would work miracles indoors (if you can keep stuff at a decent distance from it, imo). There area lot of people that should get this lens, I wonder if it would be possible to rent one to use along side super speeds, just mark the take so you know to do some lens color balancing. But from 18mm to 11mm that is an immense step well worth the hassle. And if you are already on a Nikon mount then it would be hard to argue that the 14mm to 11mm jump isn't worth the cost, when you probably agree that the 11mm to 10mm jump is worth a lot.

I have to agree with whomever mentioned this but what should really happen is Red, meaning this lens should go Red. They should re-house this guy to go along the 18-50mm and the 50-150mm

lol.....don't be a Debbie Downer...lol... It's a great lens, especially for the $$.

I have a Nikon mount, not a Canon.

I bought the Tokina for Canon and shot it last week on my Birger. Nice lens. Great mechanics, no breathing. The Canon 10-22 is F/3.5-4.5. Deal breaker for me right there.

It is true that the 11mm is also at 2.8f which is huge for 11... I am sure there are some primes out there that are better, and it may not be an excellent lens in some respects even, but it certainly is an excellent buy no doubt about it. And to me it is an excellent lens if I can actually get to use one so I'd say it is an excellent lens to me cause I might.

I am thinking that we might have to swap mounts but it might be worth it sometimes... I wonder how much it would rent for. It would be a spectacular mate for the Zeiss ZF primes.

Sanjin,

Part of the excitement about this lens comes from the fact that it's Tokina that made it - read the reviews on the photography sites, they all basically say "you're never going to believe it - but Tokina's made a better lens than the wide Nikons or Canons for the price."

remember guys 11mm x 1.5 = about 17mm s35mm fov. Thats the problem with using still lenses you have to add 150percent to your focal lenght...

The Tokina is the only "fast" f2.8 super wide option if you use nikon mount on RED, that I have found. Bought it yesterday. BUT a 15mm Zeiss ultra prime is still wider.
