  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

TOIA - RED MX Latitude test 2 - HI CONTRAST

Also if you note Mark read the shade exposure as 5.6 but shot for their faces at an 8 1/2 so that is actually shooting at 800 for key light exposure, the shade, since that is 1 1/2 stops from 320 iso to 800 :–)

I'm home back in Australia!!!!!! Finally. Home sweet home, One thing about being some hi flying director.. is the relentless travel and being away from the family so much.

Anyway, nice surprise waiting for me in the corner of my office. Been sitting there for a couple of weeks.

Can't wait to see the results once that box is opened Mark.

Hi everyone,

I'm using REDCINE-X 454 and Camera RGB is not available in Color Space. Anyone else having this problem? Is there a settings that I have to change to re-enable that?

Pierce,

Thanks. I'm all set to rock :)

My pleasure, Robin.

Mark, et all:

I'm noticing when I work with the clip in RC-X that in some situations I start to get a lot of noise. Is the example I post it seems mostly blue channel related but in others it's much more red. Every instance has been from footage shot on original Mysterium chip, but not all from the same camera.

I'm still have much to learn about coloring, especially concerning what is pushing/pulling the image too far, etc.

In the example I've posted, you can see clearly the changes and the resulting noise. It happens sometimes in situations where there is definitely detail in the image. Wanting to better understand. I don't see it from a lot of MX footage.

This was from something quick and isn't the best example - my apologies, I'm just not with my main drive at the moment and won't be for a few days.

Edit: The reason I'm asking is that sometimes the adjustments I make that lead to the noise doesn't show any, and in other cases they do - but it confuses me when I perceive that it's not particularly dark or poorly exposed as compared to the shots where there is no noise and similar settings.

Thanks,

Pierce

...And about bloody time... Congratulations Mark. Give it heaps!

dude!!! cmon with the review already, you have had it a whole day already!!! and congrats !

Mark, thank you for your generosity in sharing. Love the way you grade. Excellent "feel".

Now that you FINALLY (congrats) got the epic home, I guess ill just have to wait a little while for this statement of yours:
"I'll also submit our internal tests for you to all keep in your files for those annoying producers."

But the one who waits for something good .... :)

thanks in advance.

Why ProRes? What about Gamma shifting?

C'mon Mark -- show us some Epic Simplicity!

C'mon Mark -- show us some Epic Simplicity!

It's coming :) .. We are testing it quite hard now. Really hard in fact, Nothing compelling to share as yet, but I must say this. It shoots way way better images than I thought it would.
I doupt Ill shoot my RED-ONES ever again. Pity because they are so so so good as well. Actually they are great, but the images out of the EPIC are just that much better again.
I have to say, they are an over kill, but who cares :)

One thing.. Not having play back shits me to tears..... but hopefully that's just around the corner (fingers crossed)

Other than that. The camera is fricken amazing.

Yes correct, Half debayer is blocky, I just used it for this test for a quick export, Sometimes I use it for jobs when I want a super sharp finish, and you only really see those JPG blocks if you zoom up 400%... but FULL debayer is the best for sure.
Since most of our AD's are only going to air compressed to buggery by the stations and in PAL most times, Half debayer is all you'll ever need for them. :)

I love your work, and enjoy your comments here, but I'd say that the worse the outgoing compression, the more you need to give them a clean incoming source, thus half debayer is never acceptable.

BTW congrats on your new Epic. I think we'll have to wait for our stage 2 - I'm a bit jealous (OK, more than just a bit)

Sorry Rob,
I was seriously Jealous of everyone that had one too. Especially jealous of guys that were just renting them out and not even using them. Or from guys that would never share information to the rest of us.

I promise to keep up information and the do's and don'ts.

Trust me, when you finally get one... (hopefully sooner rather than later) you wil not be upset with your purchase,
The bloody things are real world changers.
There is no going back.

Mark, May we get a still R3D ?
Thank you

Amazing job
