Does TODAILIES actually download the h264 files to the iPad? If it does, that's going to fill up quickly.

Michael - this may prove to be one of those "duh" questions once it's answered but here goes...

I am not sure I understand the difference between ToDailies and LivePlay. Can you explain? Thanks.

No worries.
LiVE PLAY virtualizes clips so that they are streamed in an unlimited amount to ipads on a closed-circuit network.
Todailies takes rendered H.264 files and automatically synces them to an iPad so they can be viewed and manipulated without any network connection.
Think of LiVE PLAY as advanced video playback and Todailies as the replacement for DVDs.

Thanks. Are the LightIron Server and the LivePlay Server complementary? The same? Can the two systems work in tandem? Does the Server compress the files to the h.264 automatically? Can the h.264 creation be hardware assisted? OK - I'll shut up now.

LI Server can serve both LiVE PLAY and Todailies and yes, they can work in tandem. In fact, you can set metadata tags in LiVE PLAY on the set and then read them in Todailies when you take them home. H.264s need to be made by some other method, to which there are infinite possibilities. So hardware assistance for H.264 creation is a great way to do it, then the directory H.264s are served to are automatically to LiVE PLAY and then synced to Todailies. Using both these systems together or independently with the same LI Server makes it easy to integrate to any project and truly any budget.

Very exciting. And very cool. Looking to wrap my head around the possibilities. More Qs on Sunday!!!

Very nice user interface on TODAILIES -- well done. I can see where a lot of clients could adapt to this very easily.

Great Michael.

Just downloaded the update to Server and TODAILIES. They work seamlessly together. Great tools to add to any production for the clients. Will be using this next week now on a production.

Thanks for making this available.

I like the new features that I have seen, but why two different apps? Can Toadailies do all of what Live Play does in addition to the new features?

2 different apps is necessary bc LiVE PLAY is designed for customized tagging of virtual files whereas Todailies is designed for take-home. Todailies can read all the metadata from LiVE PLAY, but because it doesn't require a cloud network like LiVE PLAY, it is ideal for replacing DVDs and makes iPad viewing much more conducive to user-defined review.
In other words, users use LiVE PLAY for more immediate virtual review and Todailies for take-home review.

Thanks Michael. If I may make my first feature request: Provide the ability for users to add their metadata tags via email, to be imported and integrated on the server side. Or can that be done now?

I presume the ipad synch happens throughout the day. Is it possible to prioritize the users for download access? I'm thinking about the mad dash to download the last reel of the day and getting the right people out the door first.

Before this announcement I was considering a VPN for remote access. This looks much easier and less expensive. The ability to compile selects and build rough cuts on the ipad, and then send that to editing to continue working looks brilliant. Thanks

Just bought and played after few minutes on my new iPad.
Wonderful!

I played with it and with the Server few hours and I've some questions and suggestions.

Since it stores all the videos on the iPad, it's just limited to the iPad capacity?
It supports all the 64GB on the biggest model?
If I want to remove some videos, I've only to slide on the label and click delete... Right? But what If I want it back on my iPad?

I have also few suggestions that, If possible I want to tell directly to the developers, in a way that I can collaborate closely to improve your awesome application.
I'm planning to use it next week on a 1 week and half short, but I want to use it on each future project and I think that we can improve it a lot and make it more flexible to every user.

Waiting for a Private Message from someone at lighiron, or an email at ros.balistreri@gmail.com

Best regards!

Awesome stuff Michael! And at a great price, too!

Do see if you can get the spelling of the title corrected, though. The i switched places with the a to "todialies".
P.s. of the app, not this thread.

Is Server working with RED R3D files?

I tried it and nothing happed when I dropped R3D to Root Asset Folder.

In Mac OS Console I found message that R3D is not a movie file. Shot was made with Epic camera.
