Could you tell us a little about your workflow on this shoot? I'm curious to know what apps you used to get footage through the process and how you edited. I'm a Toby Mac fan so this is of extra interest to me.

Sure Tim,

They edit with Final Cut Pro, using the proxies that the camera generates. Then exported a xml file from FCP. Took that into Crimson, then to Red Cine (no grading here), exported a DPX sequence and finally imported that into Smoke for grading. The video was graded at 720p then down converted to SD for delivery.

I think thats about it.

Curtis

Its the standard Crimson workflow. We finished it in smoke giving the smoke artist Redlog DPX files so that he had the flattest possible image to work with.

Also, instead of just simply grading it, the smoke artist did a lot of matting for color correction on things like the singers eyes to make them really pop out.

Looks great I really liked the fact that you told a story in the clip.
Out of interest what lenses did you use for the microphone C/U?

Just finished a video clip for a local Sydney band K1, edited on FCP graded on Scratch and finished in AE will post sample stills, video and detailed workflow soon.

Looks good, do you know what lens ring/light source was used as an eye light?

we had a homemade ringing light we used that a gaffer we use alot made.

Great job! Great story telling, gorgeous shots and beautiful grading.

Well done!

Great video. Editing is very tight, shows just the right moments in the pawn shop-- it gives a lot of meaning to some of the subtler movements of the actors. Dig the music, too!

I liked your lighting set-up for the singers. Did you have a light rigged right to the top of the camera? Added an interesting sense of depth to the small space they were in, especially when the camera made some small moves in and out.

we had a homemade ring light on the front of the camera for the performance shots. also above their heads we had a 9 light maxi (i think). so very minimal lighting, but gave a really cool feel.
