  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

To RED: Excellent business, thank you.

We wanted to thank you for the fantastic offer to reduce the epics price for all owners of the red one.

After 19 years of constant upgrade from VTRs (beta->sp->dbeta->hdcam), cameras (16mm arris and betacam evolved all the way to 35mm arris and sony hdcams), that is in fact the first time we ever got a full refund on the former system delivered. Thats simply excellent and outstanding.

Second that.

Truly awesome!

Thank you Jim, thank you RED!

1st time customers doesnt have the feeling...f*ck i should have waited....

but i know some EX1 buyers who couldnt sleep well yesterday

What a difference 1k makes

What a difference 1k makes

The upgrade path is indeed innovative and Jim deserves mucho marketing credence and a buisness Oscar for giving it a try.

The concept only floats if REDone users consider that $40k for the 5k camera is good value.

It is inevitable that after paying $17k for 4k one can be excused for considering that the $40k price tag for 5k is artificially high in order to offer the trade in discount.

I sincerely hope the RED team can simultaneously continue to keep new developments appearing in the online store, whilst nurturing the goodwill and positive spirit of REDusers, particularly those who are investing significant percentage of available funds into their dream, are still shaking out the bugs in RED one and who also, in 12 months or less will be facing competition from EPIC.

Well, there are more than 1k differneces between the two, from the announced specs. Actually I think resolution would be the least reason to upgrade, there aren't that many lenses out there that resolved 5k anyway...

If I chose to upgrade, it would be more like:

DR (if better)
Less compression (I posted a couple of months ago, that I saw redcode 72 as the most desired upgrade, still stand by that, but Jim explained that the ONE tops out @ 36 MB/S...)
Dual HD-SDI output scaled from full sensor.
A more mature system (hopefully)
100 fps from full sensor
Less skew.

I hope you still can record higher than 100 fps on a scaled sensor.

But for now:
ONE rules.
And I can sleep tight with my investment.

Boo the ROO

Dual HDSDI out and Skew are basic features that were initially expected in RED one when the price of $17500 was announced.

How many were persuaded to buy RED one with the Company motto (if I may call it that) of "rendering obselecence obselete" or "ROO"

I think EPIC does not have great enough improvements to RED one not to warrent critism that those features should be available as upgrade in RED One.

I fully understand that the new features probably can't be included in RED one for technical reasons and the tech team would have known this months ago. Hence the dubious use of the ROO marketing phrase in recent months.

In my view a 6k sensor would have put enough difference between models.

As it stands today I think ROO as a marketing mantra is looking a little tattered!
REDones still on back order and the camera has already been superceded!

Then again, I never bought into ROO, and have said (and sometimes been bashed for) that for almost two years.

RED ONE, as it stands with me now, is the best cam I could ever had today (not that there isn't other viable options quality-vice, I just couldn't buy them)

I, and some others have said that we'd have payed a bit more for this and that. Looks like we get the option to do that....

Dual-SDI scaled seems to come. I ate that pill a while back... Now it's here again, with sugar and all :)

I KNOW the specs have been changing on th ONE, and not always for the better... I still couldn't be happier with what I have received...

The raw-resolution was never what made me want this cam over say SI, even though it is a sexy feat...

Yes, this attitude towards clients is really something.

Not very capitalistic, though. :)

Or maybe on the contrary - smart and cultured business-making. Good.

No "gypsy" tricks.

In the end - a happy client is a guarantee for success.

That is building up their brand name and we all know that when your brand name gets built and respected, it starts working and earning for you.

Good thing.

Yes thank you RED. I too am more than happy with the very generous upgrade offer. It keeps the door well and truly open for great great new possibilities.

I also look at it as the Red one can be a great learning/ test of the market acceptance here in Aus, and if all goes well, 5K will be the way to go in 2009.

Thanks Again for giving great tools to work with now and even better ones in the future!!

Cheers, Tim.

i just saw today that another post of us was truncated yesterday, altering the statement to the opposite we wanted to post.

When the servers were overloaded and we were sitting here with 4 fellow redusers, we didnt notice that.(reduser.net was having database / connection errors all the time). i changed that immediately after seeing that. i hope someone at red notices that (jim did comment on the non-intended fragmented post).
