Hi,

Any technical advice on how to shoot a music video. I am going to do my first paid Scarlet job and thou I use the camera personally for a year now I would like to know if there's any common or standard setting I should default to for shooting a music video.

Specifically what compression ratio is best. 8:1 or 6:1? No sure if I should load up there drive with the highest resolution footage or would be more practical production wise to use a less fidelity?

Would it be better also to use 2k instead of 4k. I'm thinking 3k would be better than both. Also, should I go 29.97 tho I generally like 24 or 30fps.

I don't know all the listing for clapboard takes but I will do my best to right now. The director has worked with Epics so I'm thinking I may receive good instructions anyhow but anything you can add will be great.

I'm going to start with my PL Mount and then switch to EF mounts. It's going to be all day shoot.

TIA.

To be honest those sort of questions should probably have been agreed upon between you and the Director way in advance.

As a general rule I shoot the highest compression I can get away with. It's not like shooting at 3:1 on an Epic or anything. With low(er) budget shoots I always think the cleanest image possible is the best idea because quite often a lack of lighting budget can lead to you being a touch underexposed in cases so if shooting at 6:1 instead of 8:1 gives you even 1-2% more latitude in post to push a grade it's worth it.

Things went really great. I packed so much stuff, even little knick-knacks like an extra set of gloves, flashlights, all kinds of little artifacts and it prove to be very useful. I was very well prepared. Truly a value to the director and his right hand man. He also take me a lot.

It's was an incredible experience for my first shoot.
