The first two shots where shot with the RED camera using the 80-200mm Nikon Zoom and then it goes in order of 5D2, 5D2, 40D, 40D, 40D, 5D2, 5D2, 5D2, 40D, 5D2, 40D, 40D, 5D2, 5D2. Most of the DSLR TL was shot with Zeiss ZF lenses with a Nikon to EOS adaptor. The wild fires shots at the end, I got last night...kind of looks like Iraq getting bombed or something.

Of course all the footage shot with the 5D2 was in stills mode not video mode.

Beautiful time lapse shots. Well well done Andrew :)

Edit: By the way where was the timelapse shot taken of the burning mountain?

The opening shot is very likely the most spectacular cloud timelapse I have ever seen. Breathtaking. If you don't sell that thing for a good deal of cash then you will know that everyone has gone blind.

Who would you sell a shot like that too? Discovery?

It was shot on the hill on the south side of the 210 up by La Canada. I just drove around until I found a clear shot of the hillside. First I tried getting close to the fire but I got turned around by the police.

Thanks man, I was just driving up to the Tahoe area when I saw the clouds forming. So I got off the freeway and just shot from the onramp.

I used REDAlert! to process out the footage and didn't do much to it as far as adjustments go. Color space was Camera RGB and the Gamma was Rec 709. I went out to 1920x1080 ProRes (HQ) using REDrushes.

Andrew,

Amazing!

Spectacular sky with moving clouds at the beginning shot on RED1 and the last two with stars and fires shot on 5D2 (stills mode).

Do you need Master Prime T1.2 14mm like on 50D?

Not at all.

With B20 RED can handle low light footage much better.

wow dude, I know I say this every time, but this is your best yet! those fires are wicked, why havent you guys figured out how to avoid that? :-)

In the clip starting at 1:10, how did you get the foreground to stay exposed properly as the night rolled in? AND white balanced properly?

Stunning footage!!!!

I take it that one bridge shot was the one where you ran into a bit of trouble?

The sun had already gone down so it was already kind of dark. I already knew what exposure to have it at so the city would look properly exposed. The WB was done in post as it was just a bunch of RAW frames put together. I'm going to get another shot but facing west next time because that will look so much better as far as light and color go.

Yep and that's all I'm going to say about it because I would like this thread to remain open.

Stunning stuff Andrew!

Re: La Canada fires. Andrew did you get a time lapse shot of the smoke today? It looked insanely beautiful (considering) early in the morning. Almost mushroom cloud like. But amazing colors. Its kinda super murky now...

Andrew, great footage! The fires at the end were mesmerizing. The bridge shot lighting was very nice too... Good work!

Yeah, I was looking for a shot today with all that smoke but I didn't find it. I might try tomorrow. The smoke looked really cool at sunset.

The bridge lighting has changed from the first time I went out there a couple years ago. Now they have LED floods for the street lights. Much brighter than before.

At 3pm it was INSANE. The colors were nothing like your sunset and it was nowhere near as complex, but it was ominous. I wasn't really close, but the stack was so big it felt like it was down the street from Vineland where we were.

I don't know much about the fire itself but I hope it is under control and everyone that lives there is safe.
