I need some aftermarket time-code cables to allow me to send and receive TC to and from my Red cameras. My initial thought is I want to get some short jumpers that go from the Red's 5 pin Lemo to 2 BNCs (in and out)

Who makes them, and which ones do you like?

Thanks Much,
Rich

Hi Rich,
try these links

http://www.ambient.de/produkte/timecode/tc_kabel/tc_kabel_e.html
This is Ambient products in Germany they make the 5-pin TC system that we adopted.
Also there is Sound Devices in the U.S.A.
http://www.sounddevices.com/products/accessories.htm#timecode-cables
So this one above can be used for TC in or out you just change the BNC to whichever one you want.

I hope this helps!

Question about this... To go from a RED to a RED you need a lemo to lemo, correct? What about if you want to jam from a smart slate? I know for the timecode boxes (like the lockit), you just need the lemo to bnc. Is there any way to have one cable that you can either use to jam from camera to camera or camera to other device?

BTW, how much did Coffey charge for your cable Evin (I'm guessing that it was the lemo to 2 bnc's, right?)

Matthew

I got the Sound Devices ones. THey seem fine; no one in the audio department has complained yet.
I got two per camera so that there could be a Lemo on each end, but strung together with a BNC.
Cheers,
Harry

while we're on the topic, on a 2-camera shoot, are there any common issues that come up when feeding timecode to the camera that present a problem farther down the post chain?

if a lockit box was put on each camera feeding into the timecode connector and the cameras are both set to jam sync, the 2 cameras' timecodes will match perfectly correct? they don't have to be connected to each other right?

any other potential pitfalls to worry about when it comes to this?

SMPTE LTC to/from camera on unbalanced lines

SMPTE LTC to/from camera on unbalanced lines

Sorry to ask a dum question, but can the time code output from the RED ONE be taken as SMPTE LTC master over two wires (shield and signal ~0.7vac), that is output to a unbalanced audio cable?

My system can slave (or master), and so sync to external SMPTE LTC and that way it could playback both recorded images and sound in sync with the camera, the RED ONE would be master SMPTE LTC source and my program and magix deLuxe would be SMPTE LTC slave.

Is there a standard cable that can connect to the RED ONE that has both master and slave output and input like a Y cable?

Can the RED ONE also slave to SMPTE LTC?

(or do I need a converter and if so which one?)

So far, my experience has been: I can link multiple reds together with time code in and out. I come out of one and cable into the next. You have to turn on and off both the timecode input and output in the cameras menus.

I did a 6 Red camera shoot with Lock-it boxes. All was good untill the afternoon and they drifted all over. Next time I will hardwire link them (assuming I can).

I have also found that sound can drive the red camera(s) code, but some sound recorders do not like red's internal code, when the Red feeds them. I have one client that might have got high pitch ticking on the Red's sound (it was presumed to be from the timecode, but has not been proven).

I have been using my sound guys in/out cables. I just ordered 2 of the Sounddevices ones today.
