Hi All,

It has been a while since I was checking the apple side of RED. I have been using Avid and Monkey Extract recently. But, I have to help someone conform a short feature and they have used FCP but have littered the timeline with time-remapping and effects.

My question is.. what is the latest on reconforming this footage. Can Crimson cope with it these days? We are planning on doing the grade in Baselight.

Any ideas? Thanks

Max

I haven't done exhaustive tests, but ran into this last week for someone who wanted DPX files for a Scratch session. We took the FCP xml thru Crimson and into RedCine. RedCine rendered the clip from the correct source in-point, and rendered it for the number of frames in the FCP timeline. Thus, it did not compensate for the time-remapping by either rendering the remap (which you wouldn't expect), or by rendering the original segment of the clip used in the creation of the time remap (i.e. longer than in the timeline).

So, the news is not good. We had to manually render the remapped clips in their entirety and edit them back in manually after grading. Unfortunately, they missed one of the remapped clips and it casued a lot of scrambling in the final re-assembly in FCP.

If Crimson does have a workaround, I'd love to hear about it. We only had one day to turn our stuff around and didn't have time to investigate.

It's been my experience that filters are fine (when staying on the fcp side ie fcp>crimson>fcp>color>fcp) but timing effects must either be applied post conform for redcine, or either baked in/post conform for color.

Sorry
