  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

TIME PIECE: fashion film/editorial project

shorter would def be better - and rather than just slapping a song under the footage it might be cool to do some sound design.

Hi Rob,

here are some thoughts .... that are read best, with an open mind, from a friend ...

I like the visuals. powerful.

... "Killing Darlings" .... is a tough thing to do, when editing.
Especially, when shooting and editing is carried out by one and the same artist.

Being in love with the "awesomeness" of ones creation ... can easily go to the point, where the very "awesomeness" is buried in the repetition.

since you´re new to editing, as you pointed out, I´d suggest to "just try" a short version of it .... limit yourself to the 8 / 12 most significant moments and balance for visual and story progression as well as build up to a release at the end.

Let us feel the pain. Let it work in our mind. Falling on ones back is as frightening and painful as it gets, seeing it again and again makes it much less - special.

Hide stuff. rather than showing it. let the mind fill in the gap of awesomeness. suggest rather than show.

Use original music/sound, maybe create a sonic landscape, rhythmic, ambient piece .... just enough to clue the thing together and heighten the visual impact.

I think, this would run nicely in under a minute ... as "a statement".

cheers,
Detlev
