I am confused by what timecode setup to use.
Scarlet w
Sound devices 633

Red menu TOD or Edge? What is better and why?

790-0154: 3BNC-to-00 LEMO Sync Cable - is a connected hard wire between the 633 and the red camera the only way? Can I timecode via wireless in any way?

Does the 633 tell the camera the sync info or does it come from the camera or is there a handshake between the two and they agree?

Thanks for any advice.

Unless the Scarlet W is different than previous REDs, it does not act as the master clock when jam synching. Presumably the Sound Devices will do that; the Scarlet will be the slave.

My opinion is that you're better off getting an external jam box for the Red and jamming it twice a day from the Sound Devices recorder. Check the camera so that whenever it's rebooted or a mag is changed, it still reflects accurate external code from the box. Both Denecke and Ambient make very good, reliable timecode boxes, and they're very small and lightweight. In multi-camera situations, you'll need both timecode and genlock reference from the box for reliable operation.
