Ok, we are going mad here trying to get timecode into the camera.

The Sound guy is using a DidgiDesign Protools box to send LTC timecode to the camera. The camera is set on Jam Sync. No time code! We tried sending the same signal into a Sound Devices Box. Definitely receives the signal.

It does not seem that complex.

The only thing we can think of is that the cable we got made up might be wired incorrectly for the Red.

Has anyone used the Sound Devices Lemo to XLR timecode cable with success with the Red? If so, I will buy one and try it out.

Regards

Rob

How are you concluding there's no TC? Are you rolling TC on the protools before enabling jam sync on the camera? Are you rolling a test clip on the camera to see if it takes the TC properly?

Hardwire or radio link?

Hi Cail.

Thanks for your interest.

Time code is definitely being output from the protools box. Time code running on the camera is the to TOD timecode being generated by the camera. I can see the timecode running on the evf. We plug in the lemo. The timecode does not change to that being output by protools. I press record. The time code does not change to the output from the protools box.

If you are on pre- Build 17 then you have to record a shot and a chain-link will appear in the top center of the LCD and EVF.

You can get a LEMO cable and jam it straight from the LEMO out of the Sound Devices, The cable probably got wired wrong, I'm using a LEMO to XLR, then XLR to LEMO because the Sound guy didn't have a straight LEMO cable. Send a copy of the Red Manual to the House that made the cable, each PIN is labeled.

You've definitely got Jam Sync enabled?

Otherwise, it's a bit tricky - TC slate might need to be used instead - is this for playback sync purposes (my assumption given you're trying to slave to protools).

Yes, jam sync is definitely on.

I will send the wiring diagram to the cable guys to ensure it is wired correctly. We have tried everything else.

Thanks

Rob

Regardless of TC source, cabling problems can cost literally days of lost production time. To mitigate such problems Epic users should incorporate the Sync Bob Plus module that provides shielded and armored cabling plugging into the little Lemo sync connector and put the BNC's rigidly on the right side of the camera body. Inputs provided are TC, Genloc, Record start/stop and a SDI HD pass through to position BNC is a readily accessible site. Check it out on the webstore on spacecam.com These units are meeting an incredible need and are flying off the shelf.
