  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tilta Nucleus Nano available for PreOrder $229.

Spoke with Tilta USA today and they mentioned that the PreOrders would be shipped starting first week of December.

No UK shipping which is a shame, would have loved to grab one in the first run. Guess I'll wait with the rest of us UK plebs.

Everyone getting so excited about this must not remember how the last Tilta pre-order and delivery of the 1st gen Nucleus went.

Don't you think that they have learned quite a bit from that experience? their responsiveness to customer feedback on their Facebook page (and otherwise) has been pretty great - the M has come a long way fast since its launch....

Yes, it was a long wait for GB/ first adopters.

At the same time, they are not bad actors and it should be noted, they declare up front that credit cards will not be charged until units actually ship. So worth the wait I think.

Can the Nucleus-Nano Handwheel Controller be plugged into the CTRL socket on the I/O Expander to control EF lenses without an external motor?

Are they planning on having a finger-wheel (wireless or wired) for this? Cause that'd rule.

I was already scheming to rip one apart to see how small the switch controls could become for this purpose - maybe able to be embedded somehow into my favorite handles. So much better if they do it! I don't expect I can use the N knob/wheel to both support camera weight and move as a controller. But maybe.

It's basically all I'd want to keep in my kit... Like even if you could use the Nucleus-M handle with the Nano, it'd be what? $400? And that'd give you a handle+finger-wheel for single-op handheld *AND* a wireless knob for when you've got an AC! Plus it'd work on any glass/camera, not just RED/internal EF motored stuff... That's pretty ideal for owner/ops.

The problem with the Nucleus-M Handle is; you can’t use either of them on your Ronin if you use the Ronin Grip, and we use the Grip because it allows us to achieve eye-level shots without having to hold our arms above our head for long periods of time.

This was ultimately what made us go with Teradek, as they have a Thumbwheel Controller you can mount anywhere. If Tilta came out with an affordable, high quality Thumbwheel Controller that could be mounted anywhere, and even adapted to be integrated seamlessly with the GDU Cowboy handles, for example; they’d be onto a real winner.

Does anybody know if and how the Start/Stop button works with Red?
Do I need additional cables or does it communicate via Wifi?

I've been curious on this, as well. Haven't really found any solid info yet. From the Tilta page (https://tilta.com/shop/nucleus-nano-wireless-lens-control-system/) they do have this as a disclaimer:
"** PLEASE NOTE: The R/S cables we offer for our wooden handles ARE NOT compatible with the Nucleus-Nano since the engineering and pin configurations are completely different. Using the wooden handle R/S cables are not safe to use with the Nucleus-M or Nucleus-Nano. Only use cables that have been developed by us exclusively for the Nucleus-Nano system."

The last sentence leads me to believe that there will be a dedicated cable for R/S, just not sure for what cameras and if it's included in the kit or not.

I send them a message yesterday to ask if it's the same start/stop cable as for the nucleus m (there seems to be a wooden handle one and a second type, you have to search start stop cable on their website) but it's not stated if compatible with the nano. Will post if I get an answer.

Here is the response from Tilta, we'll have to wait for start/stop cables:

Hello Martin,

The cables will be coming out later. They are not for pre-order just yet but you can sign up to our email list to be one of the first to know when we do have new products coming out.

The Nucleus Handgrip will be compatible, if that helps (or so I was told by Tilta support).
