So, my Raven came in today and, yes, the build quality is amazing. Definitely worth the wait. What surprised me, though, was how tight the lens mount was. This being the first BRAND NEW Red I've used, I was wondering if that's expected and should loosen up or if it would be good to have it looked at (waiting on a new monitor, so I've got time). It is to the point that it's hard to get the lens cap to engage the pin (definitely not like any OLDER Red I've used) and I'd be worried about that much torque on lenses over time.
Thanks!

Yep... new locking mechanism... read manual to safely unlock and lock the lens in place.

See page 163 of manual.

If you're coming from a DSLR background, yes there is that button (which you push). But there is also a "secondary locking ring" which you have to rotate counter clockwise to unlock before pushing the button to release the lens. Similarly, after attaching the lens and hearing the click like in a DSLR, you have to lock the lens in place by rotating the "secondary locking ring" clockwise.

Yeah, the mount's unlocked. I've used several older Epics in the past and the only time I've encountered this is on a wooden camera ef mount, never a Red mount.

May be they F-ed up the locking mechanism during testing or its just a faulty mount.

But lets wait for the census to come in from the other owners before you decide to send it back in...

The mount is rock solid from my experience. I'd prefer a lens secured onto the camera body than a lens that needs to be shipped back for repair. I've taken lenses off the raven multiple times now and don't mind the added tension. Makes me feel safer operating actually.

My Epic arrived new from RED with a bad Canon mount. It was very tight even when fully unlocked, and there was a feeling of scratchy friction when putting a lens on. I ended up having to send it back to RED, where they replaced a defective "leaf spring". I was surprised to see such a basic failure of QC but they fixed it pretty rapidly.

But isn't that why the dual lock feature is there for???
You shouldn't be twisting the lens with vigor to put it on and to remove it.

mine definitely tighter then a 5d, but didnt have to force it and it feels solid.
