Can Thunderbolt take down SDI ? especially by the way it transfer's the data (Dual Channel).

The bandwidth is there for this application, but as of right now there are no products to handle it.

So, no ... for now.

Check back after NAB and the answer will quite possibly change.

Thanks, but the problem is I need 3.73Gbps to edit at 1920x1080@60p 10-bit RGB 4:4:4 so 3G-SDI or dual link HD-SDI not enough.

HDMI is not prefered because of HDCP and data sustained, so the best is to wait for NAB as u said.

Thunderbolt is per definition protocol agnostic so it's definitely possible. Question is whether or not the standard allows anyone to develop upon it.

Thunderbolt is effectively PCIe 2.0 x4 plus Mini DisplayPort over a cable.

So, anything you can do using PCIe x4 you can do with Thunderbolt.

That's kind of the point.

So ... just like you saw USB 3 video i/o interfaces, hold on to your hats because 3D 3G SDI interfaces are coming over Thunderbolt.

As to the earlier question, 3G HD SDI does support 10 & 12 bit bit 444 RGB 1080 at 60p. The bandwidth is just under 3Gbps (2.97Gbps), hence 3G.

I don't know any interfaces that support 12 bit per channel over 3G yet... but if they don't already exist then they are coming.
