  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Thread deleted - But Why? ...

It's because it's not a Sponsored product and advertising isn't allowed. Now that RED has their new fans they are probably cracking down. But that's just a guess.

I understand your point Matt, and did the process to get infos about the Sponsored programm. None got me any infos nor quote back.
Now The thread was up since April and there was no movement on the thread since. I didn't do any agressive promotion of the FanPlate. I must admit I have a link on ma signature...

I'm even glad RED came up with their solution, as it gives REDUSERS more options to get that great camera running cool.

Would love to understand the point of view of the administrator.

Greatings from Switzerland.

Not sure who deleted the thread, but it was most likely due to promoting a product without site sponsorship. It's actually not RED being the bad guy here, but we can't give everyone a free ride when there are actual sponsors who pay to advertise.

Patrick, I'll see if I can get someone to contact you with info. Us moderators are out of the loop on the sponsorship thing.

Done that but never got any answer...

Hello Jason,

Brook asked me to get in touch with your for sponsoring purpose.

I asked months ago about the terms and conditions about sponsorship but didn't recieve any infos.

Please PM me when possible. I'll be shooting so I'm perhaps not very reactive... Have a nice day.

Thanks

Patrick

PS: my thread has been deleted not just closed. There was not even rude words nor porn in there!

Not sure how these moderators work. I've just came off a 6 week ban for a comment I made... I get banned but they leave the comment up, what's the point in that??? wasn't even a bad comment, not much sense of humour from some mods I think ;) makes no sense... I sent 6 apologies and explanations and never heard a thing back, so don't expect to ever find out why your thread was deleted.

I've got a feeling I maybe banned again for this comment, see you in 6 weeks guys!

I love your sense of humour Owen!

There was a time where RU was much more a wrestling place where we could argue with Jim, Brent, Ted, Greame, Finner, Sanjin... and other tech nerds. I miss those times. It made things mooving. Remember the argument with Jim about the Metric scaling on RPP?

I shoot RED, I love RED, but it gets tricky to speak about great products that are not in "the moderator" interest. I believe the most informations, speaking clearly about all products, is in the interest of RED USERS, but I'm not the moderator.

I aslo understand your point to ask for a clear banning rool. Clear thread deleting conditions, but perhaps they don't have the time to write you the answer?
I don't wait for an answer.

I would love to promote what is IMHO good for RED shooters without braking rools. I believe the Epic is amongst the best camera a DP can wish and communicating on how good it can be with the right tool is in RU interst. IMHO.

Still waiting to be PM'ed.

I sent a request to Jason with my last post to this thread. Beyond that, it's out of my hands.

That is typically the way it works. Unauthorized advertising or promotions are typically pulled. Occasionally, some are closed with a warning, depending on the situation -- such as a long-running thread that spawns a new product, which eventually comes to fruition. There are times such advertising does fly under the radar and we miss it. If you happen to know of any, direct me to it and I can remove it too. ;)

Anyway, if you want to advertise, you have to be a forum sponsor. Those are the rules around here. Has little to do with content, such as profanity or porn.

Well, I have no idea what comment you're talking about or why you might have been banned for it, but whatever moderator or admin banned you probably felt there was just cause for it. That's the thing though, there is so much information flow through this site, it is hard for any one person to digest it all. Us moderators are just users like you guys, we have just been around longer in some cases or through various contacts or ways we have conducted ourselves, we have been invited to moderate the forums. We do it on our own time, without compensation, we are not employees of RED or Landmine Media (the ownership of these forums). Often times, when dealing with difficult posts or problematic threads, decisions are made quickly because that is all the time we can afford. I have no problem admitting that the moderation team here makes mistakes and we are not always consistent in our actions. It varies from one moderator to the next, it often varies from day to day with the same person.

Not sure why the comment, which got you banned, was left to remain. It does occasionally happen, if for no reason other than to serve as an example or to not disrupt the flow of an already damaged thread. Sometimes the latter is the case and we just have to remove the whole thread because the comments are out of hand and there's no way to save anything else.

I miss those days too, but it just doesn't work that way anymore. RED has grown significantly... The forums have expanded by leaps and bounds.

I shoot RED, I love RED, but it gets tricky to speak about great products that are not in "the moderator" interest. I believe the most informations, speaking clearly about all products, is in the interest of RED USERS, but I'm not the moderator.

Common misconception there. It's not about what is or is not of interest to the moderators. We have a code of conduct, we have guidelines for advertising. These are posted for public viewing somewhere, but I will say they could be made more visible... I can't tell you where to look at the moment. Then again, no one ever reads that stuff anyway.

I aslo understand your point to ask for a clear banning rool. Clear thread deleting conditions, but perhaps they don't have the time to write you the answer?

I'm not sure what is unclear. We still follow the same basic rules Jim laid out in the beginning. Treat this as RED's house. Or at least as if it were their front lobby. If you would not say something to someone in the real world in that location, don't say it here.

I would love to promote what is IMHO good for RED shooters without braking rools. I believe the Epic is amongst the best camera a DP can wish and communicating on how good it can be with the right tool is in RU interst. IMHO.

You can talk about products or accessories you use or are interested in using, regardless of who makes them, as long as they apply to RED in some way or being used with a RED camera or other RED gear. But if that product is your own or you represent those who make or sell that product in any official capacity and are promoting it without sponsorship, then there is a problem.

"I have no problem admitting that the moderation team here makes mistakes and we are not always consistent"

ok thats all i need to hear, i forgive you moderators :)

Patrick, IMHO you have crossed the line few times. Advertising aside, you seem to be frequenting threads related to the cooling of RED cameras. Given the product you represent - this is expected. But then you need to be very careful about what and how you post it. Good example is the thread I have recently started about the refreshed look on the new TOP FAN, where you ended up posting:

Still is a tiny fan IMHO. I wonder the performance.

I must admit, the look is really cool!

Pat

That "innocent" comment when put in combination with your signature that links directly to your own competing product is the kind of combination that would get anyone in trouble. Even if you were a REDUSER sponsor, which you are not. Pretty much all REDUSER sponsors here respect what Jeff has highlighted above - this is RED's house. Behave as you would if you were actually visiting RED and talking to folks face-to-face...

I am pretty sure if you were wearing a tee with massive BMW logo and the link to BMW website, walked into Toyota dealership and started to talk to their customers making comment about the Toyota's being too small and that you wonder about its performance - you will be politely asked to leave and not come back. Consider yourself lucky that you only got your thread deleted...

:sifone: Peter

PS: Adding a direct link to your commercial product in your signature without having a sponsorship agreement is IMHO as well crossing the line. People's links to their personal sites and/or their work are fine (as specified in the FAQ). But posting links to product that do (or potentially can) compete with RED's own business interests (design and manufacture of digital cinema cameras and accessories amongst other things) is rude to say the least. Getting the sponsorship organized is really easy - if you really wanted to. I have myself brought a few REDUSER sponsors to this site, many of whom are still here to this day - such as MAXX DIGITAL...

Arbitrary, nonsensical banning comes from mostly one moderator, I think everybody knows who. It's the main reason why my full name is not in my profile anymore.

Well so let me do it. I'm waiting for any quote of sponsorship.

!!!Beware a bit out of topic answer!!!!

Since 1 year I was the only one working on cooling the RED EPIC and showed my concept of putting a fan on a top plate that would keep a better airflow for the Epic.

+1
Hope so!
Any contender?

Pat

As there was no contender I decided to develop the FanPlate.

I asked RED if it could harm their business or if it could be of any harm for them. Because I've seen what happened to WC.
Jarred replied : "love the idea".

I always thought it has to be a big fan to have the RPM slow and make the less noise possible. Now, when I saw RED's solution, I was squeptic by the size.
Well even if we are in the RED's lobby, it's a free world, where, I hope, we still can argue on a technological solution. IMHO, It's not bashing a product being squeptic about the size of a fan. I was even squeptic about R3D compression back in 2007... ;-)

Tests have to be made to see what's the best to cool the Epic. Now as there are only two solutions out there to cool the camera, I think it's good to discuss it. And I'm ready to accept to be wrong again. ;-)

Yes my signature has a link to the manufacturer as I don't want to hide my designing link to the FanPlate (and I'm proud of it). But I'm not related to them, I don't own the company and I don't recieve money from them. When you work during one year developping something, I think you have to be obsessed by a topic, thus my presence on threads related to the topic.

Waiting for the sponsorship quote.

Pat

PS: BTW I think RED bigger front Fan is a must have. (bigger better)
PS2: I repeat : RED's top fan looks cool!
