Thoughts on REDucation X?

I have long dreamed of getting into the business but when looking at college five years ago, my parents were hesitant about me going into film/photography, fearing I would graduate and be unable to find a job. So instead of film or cinematography, I ended up graduating with a degree in graphic design a year ago and today I'm employed at a job I have zero interest in.

So now I'm looking to 'grab the bull by it's horns' and do what it takes to get into a business I have zero experience in aside from some still photography. As industry professionals, would you hire someone whose only training and experience comes from REDucation X? As a guy who lives on the opposite side of the country and is just starting to pay student loans, I want to make sure my money, the little I have, is going to the place that is going to get me furthest.

Any input would be appreciated.
