What are some of your thoughts on audio set up for the Scarlet?

I am looking for onboard audio for shooting action sports.

I'm thinking about one of the Sennheiser or Audio Technica 2 channel wireless systems, a lavaliere and belt pack and a universal transmitter that can be plugged onto any mic plus a selection of two or three mics for that.

Personally I picked up one of Wooden Camera's XLR Adapters. But I'm also considering one of the i/o modules. I prefer to record the audio into camera in most situation as long as the quality input is still good. I also have a Zoom H4N I'll use if I choose to record audio separately. I have been quite pleased with the results I've been getting from that.

For scratch track on the camera, I'm very curious about the button mics we've seen in the past and hoping they are still in the game plan.

I just ordered a MKH416 w/ the free rode blimp deal from performance audio. Was going to get the mixpre-d and still plan to (slowly getting needed equipment; one piece at a time) to use as a field mixer but thought I should jump on the mic deal since the price of the mixpre-d will not fluctuate IMO. I thought I'd use these with the Scarlet upon its release. Not audio related, but already have SmallHD DP6 and Leica R 60mm elmarit. My thought in terms of equipment allocation, is not only will I be able to have the stuff work well w/ the 5dmkII (my current tool), but will remain pretty much future proof for other cameras such as the Scarlet Cinema. @ Peter: That A-box from the link looks pretty dope and low profile. Love the mounting solutions shown from the pics as well as the price.

Since Scarlet will support 24bit audio, depending on the pre-amps one can do single camera type productions fine. A mixer might help in between. Some people prefer to do double system audio as they don't want cables to be tethered to the camera. The only down side with double system as you know is having to sync everything before the edit. There are auto sychronizers too in post. Its all good in the end, not too many cameras offer you 24bit audio unless $$$$

I expect the preamps in Scarlet will be pretty good compared to any other camera in its price range. Might even be better than the preamps in low end recorders like the H4N. Depends on signal to noise and headroom which is notoriously bad on in camera preamps. But starting with 24 bit 48kHz standard is promising.
