  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

thoughts about a different RED entry level camera..

Relativity is key here. I've done more than decade in bang for buck shooting. The DV revolution (over hyped) , lense adapters etc. What Red offers now regardless of spec/ price changes is the best you've had / will get for a long time.

But sometimes you just want the buck without the bang. I'm already getting an EPIC-X, so I was looking to use the fixed scarlet in situations where the bang really doesn't matter - like as a C-Cam, a crash cam or stuff like corporate event capture - something that would replace my 5DM2 and HVX-200.

For these applications, what has been added to scarlet won't increase the rental revenue. If quality matters then they'll rent our Red MX or Epic-X.

Is Scarlet going to be an amazing camera? Absolutely. It's just a different camera for a different market then the original concept and some people are having a hard time adjusting.

Me? I'll just keep my HVX and 5DM2.

as epic and scarlet have evolved into more and more awesome cameras over the years [which i think is fantastic] i have also found myself wishing red might someday get around to doing something like the original 3k for 3k concept. like a red version of the goproHD. put a 2/3'' sensor in a little box, give us record and redcode. fixed lens, even fixed focal length. no frills whatsoever. open up a world of possibilities to all the people of the world who love red and what they do but will never own an epic or scarlet.. and maybe something too for all the epic and scarlet owners who cherish their cameras but like to break stuff chasing crazy shots

of course the target market have changed since the first concept..
the point of this thread was to dream that RED may start to think of making the first concept beside the whole new creatures they are talking about now.. once the two tools are completely different creatures for different markets..
let Scarlet and Epic alone.. we wish that the most open company to the consumers would fulfill their wish and finish the shit happening in the market by delivering us a simple RED concept motivated tool, other than the extreme best DSMC on the globe..

in the end, its just a dream,,

Maybe Alexa has the technology to build a camera to fill this niche. Probably not at that price point though.
