We sent one of our EVF Bombs over to ET so they could play around ....

Here's what happened -

The mayor issue with older ET RED EVF mount was lack of Y axis adjustment that means it worked with positive or negative X and Z but not with vertical adjustment on eye level with Y axis.

Not true at all - and I'd be happy to show that to you when my camera is back.

On these two images below you can see how is possible to "slide" RED EVF up and down using Zacuto RED EVF mount (original Zacuto mount was reconfigured by me).

That's what I talking about and also know that ET did one extra option with Mantis handheld to attach RED EFV mount for a lower eye level.

Sanjin -

All of our ET RED EVF brackets allow us to adjust up and down on the Y-axis - so ... not sure what you are talking about. We can also attach the ET EVF extension and attach to an Eyepiece leveler (http://www.elementtechnica.com/products/view.php?p=85) which is what 90% of the bigger production do.

I do know about the Zacuto EVF mount. The same can basically be done with the ET EVF mount, but I just like it more even though it's a lot more expensive.

I know exactly what I'm talking about.

Surely not about eyepiece leveler...

I'm talking about that with existing ET EVF you can't get EVF at the same horizontal level as a lens.

What it is about?

It's about that when you slide RED1 on ET Mantis than camera gets higher on your shoulder.

If you have ET EVF you have to TURN down whole EFV to get it on your eye,

that means you also move your neck up and exactly that is situation when you can feel more pain at your neck

and also backbone later especially if you have longer extended time of shooting...

EL-VFM2_02.jpg

Here is an example from ET page that EVF is not at the same horizontal line as a lens center and a guy must watch up to catch EVF eye level.

Here on this image you can see that the lens and RED EVF are at the same horizontal center level
and using camera handheld you don't need to turn EFV or your neck up.
That means you can avoid neck and backbone pain at a longer time extended shots.

Hi Sanjin,

All you have to do is pivot the support so that the slider closest to the camera (the one that attaches to the 19mm rod) is vertical, adjust it until it is level with the lens.

Cheers,

Steve

That's all crazy talk.

Not sure why I'm bothering with this argument, but that is just not true. That only happens if you attach the ET EVF mount to the top of your camera. Lots of ways to configure the ET mount, including mounting it to the shoulder support, when using a Mantis. When the RED is on my shoulder, I always have the EVF situated so I'm looking straight ahead, right into it. with it parallel to my line of vision.

ANYWAY... to keep the thread on topic, I'm eagerly awaiting my Bomb EVF. I'd like to see ET come up with a more compact and agile mount system for the Bomb. I know they can do it.

First off, I have two ET brackets and they are the only thing you should buy. That wonky Zacuto rig, torcs the top rod and leans over constantly.

Jeff I've always found under-mounting on my mantis rig never quiet fits. Love to see some photos of how you made it work.

Sanjin does bring up a decent point even though the operator in the photo seems to have no idea that the top bracket on his ET bracket should be pointing down, so that it is along the side of the camera.
If that top bracket is pointing down, you can slide the EVF down the side of the camera to the point of your eye level. The problem then is often that once the eyepiece is at a good level for your eye it is too far back toward your face and/or bumping into the matte box/follow focus. The smaller EVF should help with that, but having the EVF mounted lower on the bracket to begin, and being able to move the top sleeve mount point forward (in some cases above the lense) would also be helpful.

It seems like as the cameras get smaller the weight is moving to the front. I imagine we'll be seeing more and more handheld rigs that have a small weight on the back, as you see on many custom DSLR rigs. But instead of adding weight it would be good if we also had the option to just move the camera body itself back, to positions much further than normal, essentially to the point where the lens is over your shoulder. The main obstacle to that is essentially how far forward the EVF can be positioned.

Basically I won't buy anything unless I'm certain ET isn't going to make one. I'm eagerly awaiting their lineup of Epic accessories.

I don't say that Zacuto EVF mount is ideal, it's not because to make it work properly you have to purchase

Zacuto's Zred Zwivel and also have additional short 15 mm rod that I've got from Vocas Matte Box Kit before.

As I said before above in this tread an ideal mount would be one that can be easily moved and adjusted along X, Y, Z axis

positive and negative from 0 level wherever you could be able to positioned mount on camera.

Thanks for the picture Mark. When you have time, could you throw up another pic that's a little wider?

Stop talking nonsense Sanjin!
The ET EVF mount can be moved in all directions you need.
