  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

This is NUTS!!! 200 camera time-slice!!!

madnesssss!
Just imagine the syncro process in post.
200 motion layers = operator suicide.

Looks like it was all technique and no story in the ad. Maybe it's mind boggling from a technical point, but it still looked like a test shoot.

well, yeah... no... really...

Without the text/VO, I'd agree, but that sorta put it all into context, don't you think? I think so...

And a nice test-shoot it was, if you still disagree...

I think it was one of the more contextually telling bullettimes I've seen, really, but your milage may vary...

That's so cool! Now if it can be done with Stereoscopic! Double everything... Ouch!:greedy:

Where did they hide all the cameras? I was looking for holes in the wall or mirrors but didn't see where they might be hidden.

There is a "making of" video out there somewhere. They removed half the cameras at a time, and shot clean plates to paint them out with a Flame.

They used consumer cameras just so they could say that the commercial was shot with the advertiser's product. So not only did they have 200 cameras to deal with, they had no timecode and probably were compositing from with heavily compressed video. Yikes.

The 55 camera Red shoot in Toronto next week will raise the bar considerably!

I`m with you.
It didn`t impress me at all. Can`t tell why but it felt like stuff I`ve seen before. Even those old music videos by Michel Gondry which were shot with motion control were more amazing that this boring thing.

"When what we watch constantly redefines itself, shouldn't how we watch it do the same?"

So you have:

-12 characters
-2 balls
-1 hat
-2 paint splashes
-skateboard
-chair
-flag
-bunch of papers

one room, choreography in 3 spacial dimensions and 12 separate time dimensions PLUS master one all independently - with no CGI.
Perfectly aligned. In 60 sec.

The add is about a technical achievement and it's made by a great technical achievement. Captured with manufacturer's camcorders. The idea itself and the effect on the viewer.

I think the story here was totally irrelevant which would be redundant and poorly perceived. By being one of those commercials you remember, like exploding paint on the buildings and coloured balls down the street I think it perfectly hit the spot.

It would be interesting to see how would something like this be done with multiple Reds because of overlapping DOFs.

actually, no. you could virtually take any camera to capture something like that spot. it was not eyecandy like the bravia spots nor exciting like the honda cog or xbox rope skipping commercial. it`s just boring.

Well, yes...so ? The commercial is not presenting camera's features. Which cameras were being used is just a cool fact on the side.

I didn't perceive any attempt to create eye candy. More like brain candy...
Technical symbolizing technical. Not aesthetic.

We can all imagine what we would do with this technology and budget, though...
