  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

This August will be Epic

I don't think August release is happening. We would have seen some e-mails go out with the 30 day notice. Late Sept/Oct? Then Late Oct/Nov. then Late Nov/Dec. sigh. Please let me be wrong!

Epic, with its 5k, HDR, and light sensitivity, should make this worth a serious look. Bill, you make this sound not only attractive, but intriguing. So, what if you take the got*&*&% sumbitchin' mo*&{@!#in' Titanium PL mount and put a rectangular pinhole in the cap? Will it give you anamorphic footage?
 
Heh Heh, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't crawl over a RED prime to get to a pinhole. Especially with the post effects at our fingertips, but you never know....

A rectangular pinhole is about as useful as a rectangular A%$hole. Sorry couldn't resist.

the notice will be sent out when the epic is physically ready to ship. 30 days is the amount of time you have to send Red the money to actually ship the epic.

Don't tempt me. I'm all for getting down and dirty and experimenting with optics. (or, in the case of a pinhole, the complete lack thereof)

All joking aside, drilling a hole in the Ti PL mount cap, then putting tinfoil over it with a proper sized pinhole could be a way to get familiar with the Epic until the Nikon electronic mount becomes available.

edit: I hope the cap isn't made from Ti... that might be a little hard to drill.

Why would it not happen? I have full faith that Red is going to deliver in spades come the end of this month. I am so effing stoked.. Feels like early days of Red multiplied to the nines. I have so many things to slay with this camera. Going to be incredible! And my trusted Red MX will live on with the Epic as well! Red MX makes for the perfect backup/b-camera to Epic.. So stoked!!!!!!!!!! Bring it on Red!
 
I'm one of those people that thinks that they would be shipping at the end of August, but no e-mails have gone out. Remeber the original deal, you get an e-mail within 30 days of when your order is "READY TO SHIP" this means that if I got an e-mail today it would be READY TO SHIP September 10th. So if the e-mail comes August 31, that is September 31, that puts an EPIC here more like 60 days out.

I'm still thinking October, but I could be completely wrong.

I could get an E-mail, pay and have it shipped within 5 days, like the M program works.

I hope it is the latter.

I have zero reason to believe that the X is delayed. I think if it were delayed, Red would have told us by now. It's almost mid-August. I wouldn't worry about the 30 day notice. The tidal wave of X is about to hit. If they can assemble an M in mere seconds, imagine what they will do when X is going out the door. I'm so stoked and so optimistic at this point. I mean, BOMBEVFS are being delivered in huge waves. SSD cards are in ample supply. Accessories for Epic are available for the most part. M's are doing so great that you can now order one and have it delivered within a week. All the signs point to YES and until I see an update in Recon, I'm going to stand behind Red's word that they are going to start delivering at the end of this month!

I want to be clear that I DO NOT THINK THAT OR AM I IMPLYING THAT THE EPIC X IS DELAYED.

I'm thinking conservatively. That at the end of teh month the "program begins". That takes steps. Orders going out, money being processed, etc. I'm ready to go with my bomb squad rep, everything is in place in anticipation for the smoothest possible transition after I get an e-mail.

I hope that means I get an e-mail, finalize the order and have it shipped within 3-5 business days but I can not be sure that is the plan. Since the deal I have in place with RED is that I gave a deposit and they will send out a 30 day/fulfill my order e-mail.

If I think conservatively and then am happily surprised it will make me feel better.

I really hope you are right.

I am stoked too. Who isn't?

Yes. That could be it. The 30 day e-mail says your camera is ready to ship and that you have 30 days to execute your end of the deal which is pay in full and have it shipped. So, I am guessing that you could get the e-mail and turn the order around the same day and have it pretty quick.

That would be perfect.
