  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Thinking about getting an LTO system

Solaris is selling them for around $23 a piece right now so I think I'll go with that for now..

Probably a good deal, given what I'm finding tonight. Looks like we have a lull in availability or production slippage. It happens. Might be a residual effect from the Japan quake/tsunami or something, but I'm just guessing about that... Not sure what else it would be. Seems like a shortage of some kind and a 10% or so price increase.

Price per Gb on LTO4 is about half that of LTO5 right now. I guess more tapes around and LTO5 is just at a premium.

Hey guys,

I am looking at backup systems and need some advice.

I like the looks of the BRU LTO-5 Edit Production Bay Desktop: http://www.productionbackup.com/info...e/bundles/sas/
It requires a PCIe slot, of which I am out of on my MacPro. The Red Rocket took my last available slot.
So....I know nothing about PCI expansion. A quick google search brought this up: http://www.startech.com/Cards-Adapt...press-to-Four-Slot-PCI-Expansion-Bay~PEX2PCI4
Anybody have any advice on this or a better solution?

Lastly, I'm looking at more storage: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/RPMSS4B12.0E/
Under the specs, there are several recommended external miniSAS Cards (another reason for the PCI expansion) ranging from $267 - $1079.99. Any advice on these?

I'm on a MacPro Dual Quad Core 2.8 Intel Xeon.

Thanks in advance for your help!
