They want me and my RED ONE for a shoot. I said, "Great, but we might have to suspend production for a week while I trade my RED ONE in on an Epic-X Stage III". They asked, "OK, when will that be? So we can schedule.". I said, "I have no idea". They said, "Sounds like you don't know what you're doing". I said, "I do, it's just that I might change anything at anytime". They said, "We will review our DoP requirements". Anybody know when the Epic-X Stage III program will Start/Finish?

Instead of telling them you might have to suspend their production, you might have considered renting one if it came to it. They would never have known the difference.

^ What Mark said. I've gotten away with telling clients I had things I didn't own a number of times. I just made sure to reserve them for rental well ahead of time. Nobody will ever know (except everyone here, I guess).

That's the last time I rent a Technocrane from Alex. :001_smile:

don't send it in during the middle of a shoot. work it out with red if you need to, otherwise plan to rent. client's don't like uncertainties, no reason to involve them with anything you don't know for sure. there's certain things they don't necessarily need to know about, but i do recommend being straightforward and honest, as you've already done. just make sure you're not overly forthcoming with information that will not help you or them. you're not worried about the uncertainty, no reason to get them anxious over something they probably can't fully understand.

Can you ask Red to delay your upgrade for a week? I would've confirmed that with the bomb squad rep, then told the client I'd be happy to personally delay my camera upgrade in order to guarantee a Red One for their shoot.

I'm with Paul on this. I'd keep the Red on the production and then do the trade in after it. And or line up another camera and bring it in. No telling when Red will call up your number and no real guarantees that the trade in will be done in a week. A bird in the hand is worth... well you know. Plus, would they really want to change camera setups/frame size/crop factor of a new camera when they start up again with your new camera?

heh heh heh :)

I guess they don't understand the world of RED and how everything is subject to change! Count on it!

But yeah, renting is a good recommendation if possible.
