This cable, or any other wired like it, does not require the WC box. It will take the input from any mono mic with a properly-wired xlr connector directly into the camera. It will work for mics requiring phantom power, and with balanced or unbalanced wiring. The WC A-box is essentially two of these cables in a more-rugged package.

I don't know the Rode mice, so I can't tell you anything about them specifically.
