I start to think that the use of X in a product is a bad idea. There's a pattern emerging here.

First there was Apple's FCPX, then AVID's Pro Tools 10 (X) with HDx and now RED's Scarlet-X all of which hasn't been to everyones liking (for different reasons), all with an accompanying X.

Maybe leave the X out in the future, for a better public acceptance ;)

LOL Yes, we live in an extreme world where X became the internet mainstream ;-)

I was having a beer with Wolverine the other day. He said he was having trouble in public acceptance too.
You may be on to something here...

Using X in naming conventions is becoming a little cliche, but fortunately, the Epic and Scarlet are not being bought on any marketing basis other than performance and value.

Well if it was a P, we'd be hearing things like : " After looking at the Alexa and C300 specs, I went for an Epic P " ( :

The "X" makes it sexy.

...Apple knows this. That's why even though it's "FCPX", they say "Final Cut Pro Ten".

In the USA aircraft world, an "X plane" refers to aircraft designed to test and push the boundries of aeronautical design. Best remembered are the Bell X-1 and North American X-15. Seems fitting for Red, if even unintended.

X-15, now that brings back childhood memories and yes I do think it appropriate. RED is pushing the envelope and I believe Jim has assembled men and women with the Right Stuff. During the space race there were many failures - from which they learned from. The USA got to the moon by not playing it safe or reducing risk to zero. RED has some operational issues and problems they need to work out to be a competitive long term player but for now they are demonstrating extreme grit and resolve in the face of adversity. That is good enough for me at this point.

In Australia we have a beer "XXXX", yep tastes like shit

In the USA we have X Rated movies - they are good

Mmm, X meant experimental.
