  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Waking Dead

Although, I will add that I liked the first episode much much more than the second. The first just felt more professional, like it was directed by a seasoned and critically-acclaimed film director, cause it was. The second was good but I did not really dig the opening scene or the redneck character (seems a little too stereotypical). I liked Shane (Rick's partner) in the first episode but now I really dislike both him and Lori. I have never read the graphic novel but that must be the intention.

Well i just finished the 2nd episode and i agree with u andrew on pretty much everything. the redneck guy was a bit over the top. that was the biggest thing i noticed. Other than that i noticed the filming was just not up there with the first episode. There is this shot of lori before she walks into the forest that is so SO soft i could swear it was a sd clip in the middle of an HD tv show. looked so weird. This episode felt more thrown together. The first was so tight and solid. But we r only 2 episodes in and im still very excited to see more

The first episode - second episode drop off reminded me of Boardwalk Empire -

The BE pilot (directed by Scorcese) was thrilling, edited like a great Jazz player was on the wheels, tight, savage, funny, everything you'd want! Then the series settled down into a mediocre direction that was just... by the book.

Walking dead seems to have followed the exact same path.

A seasoned film director absolutely makes the difference, pumping that lifeblood into the material, making every word, every edit count for something fresh and unique.

Yes it's too bad the blue chips can't direct the whole thing...

The thing I find most surprising is the shows rating. I missed the first episode on TV so I watched it online and I actually thought I was watching a TVMA show but when I cought the second episode on TV, I was shocked to find out it was TV14. The gore levels would certainly result in an R rating if it were a movie. Not upset, just a little surprised. The sex scene at the begining of the second episode was pretty raw for TV14 as well. This show is certainly pushing limits, which could be a good or bad thing.

Too bad Darabont cant do all of them. I have a feeling that the quality of the episodes will vary as the talent of the directors varries. Still, the show is one of the better programs I have seen in a while so I hope the 3rd episode is closer to first, which will be the standard by which all the others are judged.

if you look at most shows they take a bit to find their stride, many look drastically different in their earlier seasons. Plus think about it, it's a horror television show with many extra's in Zombie makeup and deserted city sets and backgrounds, that's no easy task.

Honestly barely noticed the cinematography I was just going along for the ride, besides a few continuity errors.

I come from reading the comics and it is the reason I have so much faith in the show, though most of the "over the top" stuff in the show has been added for television.

It's funny how when you throw new stuff on to an already existing world it sticks out like a badly grafted on limb, frankenesque if you will.

Yes that's pretty serious production value - how did they accomplish this? It's like they had free reign to empty and destroy Atlanta pretty much...

Some people keep saying RED should give up on the 2/3" Scarlet now that there are so many S35 options out there. 2/3" just isn't cinematic. From the couple episodes I've seen this show demonstrates how invalid that argument is. There are moments of beautiful cinematography and they would not be enhanced at all by shooting on S35.

Oh yeah!

I love the low-res look here....

Actually this show and East Bound and Down are some of my favourite shows look-wise, both acquired on S16mm

Sources say AMC isn't likely to launch the 13-episode second season until next October.
Frank Darabont is expected to write and direct another episode next year.
