Nice one Steve.

Love the s3d perspective too: 2 x f950's on avatar (2009) vs 2 x 'lil epics on Amazing Spider-Man (2012- Sony Pictures ; )). And it's not just about the price right?!?? Small is beautiful.

I'm wondering if this whole debacle has lumped all DSMC1 camera owners (Red One M/MX, SCARLET-X, Epic-X) owners with the Epic-Dragon would-be upgraders. If so, what transpired earlier today really hurt that group the most... Sigh

No it has not

Thanks Julian. And its not just Nick... Nick stated that he is representing and speaking for a large group of Dragon owners that have all gotten together to all bitch about how unfair we are being.

Which.. if is the case.. we can't win no matter what we do so we might as well just got back to, you know, just like what every other company does, and release a new camera and just let people buy it. No upgrades, no trade ins, no dealing with all this drama bullshit.

Yes, yes please. Dealing with this is too much of a fucking headache.
Red cameras are nice, but the upgrade cycles suck big time. Just give us a new body + sensor.

It won't kill innovation, nor will it be more expensive than upgrades.

Regarding this whole upgrade fairness fiasco, and Jarred getting pissed off and all. I do have to say, that despite me being skeptical of any camera manufacturer, Red being quite a bombastic, loud figure in the industry, - I do have to say that they have nicely catered for the entry level that most manufacturers haven't with similar kind of attention. Red has given this part of the market some pretty insane tools for the price
The upgrade programme they had/have lined up looked very generous, it's not something I can afford, but for anyone that could take advantage of it seems like a steal.
It must be difficult for Jarred and Brent and the team to find a balance between trying to get people excited about what they're making, and the sort of radio silence that you'd get from other manufacturer. Many times i've seen they get caught in this clusterfuck of complaints that one might get with such direct and informal discussions on a forum. In a sense we should be quite grateful that Jarred, Brent and Co even put the time into the forum to discuss ideas with us. It's good that we're not in the dark and we get updates with whats the deal with the cameras and tip offs. I'm sure they're doing their best. Thanks

Welllllll said Steve!!! In the heat of the moment, it's commendable to see Jarred still praise Nick for everything he's done for this forum as well. That being said, man.... when you care as much as Jarred and everyone at Red cares... it's hard to not get emotional when you feel like your best just isn't and will never be enough... Jarred's emotions are what drives the decisions to do alll of the amazing things he's done for not just the industry but for every person that has always dreamed of being a part of this world that film makers live in. For all of the people that have something to complain about, and I think Nick was trying to come from a good place, there are literally (especially now with scarlet-w) thousands of people who's lives are different due DIRECTLY to the generosity of Jim, Jarred, and Brent. I remember in 2012 when canon announced "They were going to change the film making industry as a whole" with their C300... I was so excited for that camera because I never thought owning a RED was possible. Then the C300 comes out and man.... 16K for that? in 2012? ya... no thanks... Did Canon even care? NOPE!! That was when I contracted carpal tunnel in my finger from hitting refresh on reduser waiting for the scarlet-x announcement. It was because Jarred had created something that the regular guy could afford and that the regular guy WANTED and I never looked back! However, when you open it up the regular guy, you've got more opinions, more personalities and more voices.... Making it all the harder to please the majority.... However Jarred, even though there are people upset... I agree with every person who has said "those people are the minority..." And when you're asking "why am I doing this?" Well? You've changed lives. You've still given people something to be excited about.... You've given people something that makes them say "I've got something in my hand that warrants me to work harder... I'm one of them..." I've worked in visual fx for 16 years and now it's a job... It's a job I love but its still a job that I use to pay the bills. I'm no great shooter but because of your generosity Jarred, I've had an obsession built back up in me I've only felt when I was 11 years old and wanted to do vfx... I read reduser walking down the street on my phone tripping over things, i click the shot on red section and spend hours just looking for images that move me at 3am while my gf is dropping elbows in my rib to go to sleep and "turn off that damn light on your laptop"..... You've given me something to smile about and in turn I've fallen in love with visual fx again because I have something else that I'm obsess with all over again. If you didnt offer the all of the generous deals you offer, I would never be able to be in the place I'm in right now.... Not just in my career... But emotionally too.... No matter what man, I'm so incredibly impressed with the way you've always shaken it off... The way you've always lead by example and the way you've always made people feel appreciated... Whether you yourself felt appreciated or not... I meant it the other day when I said you've truly created a community for people to feel safe and feel like they have the ability to grow not just as shooters but as people too... Because with every great script, (which with everyone else here... I cant wait to buy my ticket to see this movie made) is an incredibl lesson to be learned that allows people to see the bigger picture... I know I've learned a lot as a person from this forum... Thank you Jarred, Brent, Jim, Graeme, Hunter (my rep) and everyone at RED for everything you do... Working in VFX I've learned how thankless your job is no matter how hard you work.... Sometimes you just need to be told "God you killed it...." Well RED.... You guys FUCKING KILLLED IT....

I really don't get all the hate.

I once invested money in a pedal powered jeep. A year later they came out with an electric one. If I wanted that one I had to buy it new full price.

I once invested money in a TV. It was a SD TV. Six months later they came out with a HDready one. If I wanted that one I had to buy it new full price.

I once invested a lot of money in apple products, three months later they came out with new ones. If I wanted that one I had to buy it new full price.

I once invested money in a canon c100 mk1. They came out with a mk2. If I wanted that one I had to buy it new full price.

I once invested money in a Canon xl1. They came out with another one.... You guessed it...

If you can't handle this shit, go to another brand for your camera's. I've heard Gopro 5 i amazing you don't need anything else. But nextyear you need to buy the new one, full price.

This! I'm very lucky to have gotten where I have thanks to Red and hope to stay on the ride for a lot longer.

Thanks to Carson, Casey, and Matt (plus whomever forgot to include a gift message in his) for today's haul....

For sure Brent!

The relative best is that Camera phone for $1k with 3D. Still I suspect $2k. You guys are getting too caught up, go home, sleep rest, wait for October the 11th. Then wait till latter in the year. One of my team says he has something.

ummm.... RED always gives you the option to just outright buy the newest camera they have available. The upgrades are a huge bonus on top of that and gives options to those already in ownership.

Your comment makes no sense.

The webstore for Good Fucking Design Advice wouldn't let me add a message! Enjoy your fuckin' mug and your fuckin' coffee :)

Jarred's got a couple things showing up on Tuesday, also sans gift message... Keep your eyes peeled, Jarred!

No all you MX owners are safe. And the Scarlet Dragon folks. And of course all the existing DSMC2 people.

This is so true! Jarred, you and the RED team have enabled me to walk out a dream with the Scarlet-W. You made it accessible to me and so many others. Like John said, you've put a camera in my hands that truly does inspire me and challenge me every single time I shoot! On my journey this community... this family has been indispensable. And that all starts from the leadership at the top down. I really do feel like I am a part of a family. It's simple incredible. And it inspires me to get out and be creative, collaborate, hone my skills, and continue push myself! Thank you Jarred and the whole RED family for all you guys do!

What a gong show. I wonder how much of Jarred's time is spent on upgrade-related stuff (coming up with paths, pricing, and answering questions). I don't envy that part of your job sir.

At the ire of many in this forum, may I suggest you end this thankless endeavour after the 11th and focus on the fun stuff? All these different RED cameras isn't going to make any future upgrades any easier to deal with. Put that energy into something else. Perhaps arranging a RED sponsored annual REDUser Reunion where we can all meetup somewhere, watch some decent bands, and get drunk.

CALL TO ARMS for ALL RED EPIC DRAGON OWNERS (that were hoping to trade-in to Epic-W):

As a Red Epic Dragon owner, I am grateful for all that RED has done (whether or not Jarred reconsider's allowing us the opportunity to get an upgrade to Epic-W). I have said my story in my last post but hope you will tell your story too.

Tell Jarred and RED why you are grateful for the upgrade opportunity (both past and moving forward). Speak up if you DON'T think you were getting screwed by this trade-in/upgrade, tell Jarred in this thread. I don't think I'm alone in being grateful and unlike those negative postings, believe the majority of us are grateful, thankful, and appreciative.

If there is anything I or others can do or say to have Jarred reconsider, I'd need to try. If he doesn't. I understand. I definitely didn't give permission for anyone to speak on my behalf so if you didn't either, tell Jarred NOW why you are grateful. This upgrade was not about us Epic Dragon owners but I'd hate for someone that did not represent my view speak for me. Did he speak for you?? If not, tell Jarred and Red NOW. They deserve it.

Just stepping in one more time to say Im sorry.

I should have chosen my words much more carefully, and certainly made it MUCH clearer how much I truly appreciate/love RED and what they stand for - great cams, and a great community here on RU.
